Well Pontiac kept its Firebird and TransAm line up until 2002, which was a very sad departure when they cancelled it (and watched Pontiac's sales fall and fall and fall as a result...).  Dodge saw a niche market when it decided to bring the Charger back, as well as putting its HEMI in the Magnum, which is kind of a hybrid muscle car/station wagon.  Like you said, the Mustang has always been around, and up until Pontiac pulled the plug on the 'birds it was Mustang/Firebird for some time.  Now everyone's trying to follow up after Dodge.  What I find interesting is the "muscle" return at the time when gas prices are going up and up.  It will be interesting to see what effect that will have on high performance, gas thirsty vehicle sales.

I do agree, muscle always > rice.  Rice gets fast acceleration because the vehicles have almost no mass, but the engines actually have very little displacement, torque, or horsepower.  Muscle is just that, raw power from a high displacement, high torque, high horsepower engine.

Good to see things changing.  The Challenger looks very nice.  :thumb:

I'm not a car man, I choose my transport for cost, and boot space, (last car was 17 years old) but I like the shiney red one.

How many gallons per mile?

It depens. If you input coca-cola in the gas tank, maybye something like 2, maybye 3.

@shambler, the new camaro should get somethnig from 30MPG
when your cruising at a same speed it will disable the injection + ignition on 4 of the cilinders.

so mpg are quite good actually.

That's probably based on the current mileage estimate formula used to sell cars.  Mileage estimates on new cars are extremely misleading.  I'd wager it would more realistically get around 22-25 highway.

I know , what you mean.
those numbers are never right.
they say a new VW golf only uses 4L/100km
I can say out of my hart that its more something of 7.8L/100km
due to braking, accelerate , stop , brake , accelerate ,......

so against the 4 banger of the Golf i think the 8 cilinder camaro aint doing that bad.
