Title: Quake E2M1 NM beaten in 6.998 seconds
Post by: Makou on 2023-05-09, 19:59
This one slipped by me. :ninja:

About a month ago, player "Chambers" did what many thought would be impossible, and achieved the first sub-7-second run of Quake E2M1 on Nightmare skill, 24 years after Markus and Attila achieved the first sub-8s runs on Easy and Nightmare, respectively, in 1999.

Video of the run here (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UYGIkFlneZc).

Some history of Q1 E2M1 speedrunning and an analysis of the run here (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4sl-s6d6_NU).

One of my favorite maps, played normally.

I remember watching a commentary with Romero where he commented about how he put all the work into that map and people figured out they could beat it in 10 seconds like a day after the game came out.

He's been blitzing levels since wolf3d, so it's ironic he never caught that.

Like seeing the old records taken down after so long. I tend to prefer the 100% types, but the 'history' stuff I can watch and enjoy for what it is.
