Title: Generations Items (First IN-GAME preview!)
Post by: Phoenix on 2003-07-31, 23:56
Alright!  Hard work has paid off here, so take a look!  You know you want to.  Sorry for the large pics for all you 56k'ers out there, but there's no other way to show off these beauties!

MP40 clip (http://www.planetquake.com/wirehead/phoenix/pics/earth/ammo/mp40clip.jpg)
Gatling Gun Ammo (http://www.planetquake.com/wirehead/phoenix/pics/earth/ammo/gatbox.jpg)
Mortar Ammo (http://www.planetquake.com/wirehead/phoenix/pics/earth/ammo/mortarbox.jpg)
Rifle Ammo, Grenades (http://www.planetquake.com/wirehead/phoenix/pics/earth/ammo/riflebox.jpg)
Napalm Ammo (http://www.planetquake.com/wirehead/phoenix/pics/earth/ammo/napalmbox.jpg)
First part of lineup (http://www.planetquake.com/wirehead/phoenix/pics/earth/ammo/lineup1.jpg)
Second part of lineup (http://www.planetquake.com/wirehead/phoenix/pics/earth/ammo/lineup2.jpg)

The lineup shows the ammo pickups in order:

Machinegun, Shotgun, Grenades, Rockets, Lightning, Slugs, Plasma, BFG Ammo

Shotgun ammo and Lightning ammo give the same thing.  Note the large ammo belt hanging out of the box you get for the BFG Ammo pickup (not in the other shots).

Drooling yet?

That is a very impressive sight indeed... I think this is really going to help put players back into that old school mentality  :thumb:

Though I must say, I kind of like floating/spinning items better than ones nailed to the ground, but that's just a minor personal opinion.

Glad everyone is pleased so far!  For all the Quake 1 fans, you've not been left out either.  Get a look at these!

Slipgate Shotgun Shells (http://www.planetquake.com/wirehead/phoenix/pics/slipgate/ammo/slipgateshells.jpg)
Slipgate Nails (http://www.planetquake.com/wirehead/phoenix/pics/slipgate/ammo/slipgatenails.jpg)
Slipgate Big Nailbox (http://www.planetquake.com/wirehead/phoenix/pics/slipgate/ammo/slipgatebignails.jpg)
Slipgate Rockets (http://www.planetquake.com/wirehead/phoenix/pics/slipgate/ammo/slipgaterockets.jpg)
Slipgate Cells (http://www.planetquake.com/wirehead/phoenix/pics/slipgate/ammo/slipgatecells.jpg)
First part of lineup (http://www.planetquake.com/wirehead/phoenix/pics/slipgate/ammo/lineup1.jpg)
Second part of lineup (http://www.planetquake.com/wirehead/phoenix/pics/slipgate/ammo/lineup2.jpg)

The lineup shows the ammo pickups in order, same as the previous shots:

Machinegun, Shotgun, Grenades, Rockets, Lightning, Slugs, Plasma, BFG Ammo

Grenades and Rockets both give Rockets, Slugs and Plasma both give big nailboxes, Lightning and BFG Ammo both give Cells.

Time to work on those Strogg boxes! B)

Title: Re: Generations Items
Post by: Tabun on 2003-08-02, 03:08
You're going fast, pho :]

btw: Is it just me or is the large rocket pickup missing in those shots? :]

Title: Re: Generations Items
Post by: Phoenix on 2003-08-02, 03:15
I'm afraid there's no large rocket pickup in Gen for the Slipgaters.  Grenade ammo and Rocket ammo are both set to give 5 rockets.  Giving 10 rockets for the Rocket Ammo pickup was seriously overbalancing the Slipgaters in 99b since every other non-Arena class only gets 5, so we reduced it to 5 for 99c and stuck with the standard box.

This is the final set of ammo boxes, for the Strogg Troopers of course.

Shotgun Shells (http://www.planetquake.com/wirehead/phoenix/pics/strogg/ammo/stroggshells.jpg)
Bullets (http://www.planetquake.com/wirehead/phoenix/pics/strogg/ammo/stroggbullets.jpg)
Hand Grenades (http://www.planetquake.com/wirehead/phoenix/pics/strogg/ammo/strogggrenade.jpg)
Rockets (http://www.planetquake.com/wirehead/phoenix/pics/strogg/ammo/stroggrockets.jpg)
Railgun Slugs (http://www.planetquake.com/wirehead/phoenix/pics/strogg/ammo/stroggslugs.jpg)
Cells (http://www.planetquake.com/wirehead/phoenix/pics/strogg/ammo/stroggcells.jpg)
First part of lineup (http://www.planetquake.com/wirehead/phoenix/pics/strogg/ammo/lineup1.jpg)
Second part of lineup (http://www.planetquake.com/wirehead/phoenix/pics/strogg/ammo/lineup2.jpg)

The lineup shows the ammo pickups in order, same as the previous shots:

Machinegun, Shotgun, Grenades, Rockets, Lightning, Slugs, Plasma, BFG Ammo

Machinegun ammo and Lightning both give Bullets.  Plasma and BFG Ammo both give Cells.

Now that the ammo boxes are all finished the health items will be up next.  Is it starting to finally look like Generations yet?  :thud:

wow.. just wow.. i mean, the only thing left to make it the original games with updated graphics would be the original huds in some of those shots.. they look almost exact to the originals with just more polys..

Title: Re: Generations Items
Post by: Lightning Hunter on 2003-08-02, 19:33
All the pickups look great!  The Doom pickups bring back the most memories.  Good ol' UAC :)

I'm guessing that the health and armor pickups will come out in a later release?  I saw the Slip Gaters health pickups in Taban's thread, but not for the other games.  I can wait for those though.  The standard Q3 ones will suffice for now. :)

Title: Re: Generations Items
Post by: Phoenix on 2003-08-02, 20:18
Actually, health is up next.  Powerups and armor won't make this release, with the exception being the armor shard I believe.

Title: Re: Generations Items
Post by: Tabun on 2003-08-03, 04:43
I consistently made (at least):
- all ammo items
- all health items (excluding mega)
- the armor shard

the latter, because it's the most common of the armor items, and helps lots to accentuate the 'class-feel'.
Some of the powerups, and no armors are done yet. I think I'm going to play around and make some strogg armors soon, though ;]

SW33TNESS.

One criticism, though - shouldn't the Doom grenade pickup be a single rocket? After all, that's what it does ingame, and Tabun himself said that the rocket model already in-game will be used for the grenades.

Title: Re: Generations Items
Post by: Phoenix on 2003-08-03, 11:37
The grenade pickup changed in 99c to the standard rocket box for Doom, owing to the infrequency of grenade boxes and Doom's tendency to miss everything short of a cyberdemon with his slow rockets.  Slipgate gets 5 rockets for a grenade box, and his rocket pickup was also changed to a standard 5 down from 10 due to playability concerns.  That is, the few times you COULD kill a Slipgater almost always yielded a backpack with > 80 rockets.  This change was especially needed since rocket explosion mechanics changed for Slipgate.  They're slower than 99b's rockets in order to match Q1 speeds exactly, but much more lethal to take splash from one in 99c.  Earth and Strogg pickup a different item entirely for grenades, both can toss them without a launcher so they technically qualify as an actual "weapon".  If you don't think that's important then consider the fact that I won a match that went into "Sudden Death" yesterday with a handgrenade toss.  Arena gets 10 for either rockets or grenades, but again has two separate weapons and we're not really into altering the Q3 class here.

Since the ammo quantity is identical for rockets and grenades there was no reason to implement a different model, same with the Skippy rocket boxes.  Tab also usually qualifies his assertions with "unless I'm mistaken", since I'm known to change the code on him behind his back so much. ;)
