Windows 98 wasn't that bad, it required the 6 month reformat but every PC still requires that. Linux still reigns supreme, I wish there were more source ports for the OS though, its sort of gameless

You could literally do nothing without any crashes or errors. Compadability was a thing of the past then this came into the play, then they ressurected it with newer OS's.

98se was good. me was worthless. xp is good, driver support at first was hit or miss. if hardware support and game support were better i'd run linux mandrake or suse. so far the only os i can do everything i want to do is xp. B) linux is still #1 in my book for the $$$  |

I'm not very fond of XP either, hehe. Even after you turn off all of those stupid interface options, it still seems cluttered and newbified *shrugs*

2000 rocks, but I like XP ok.
As soon as I get the time to install my new HDD, I'm gonna try a dual boot with XP and Red Hat. I had run RH8 for a short time on my spare, but it just ran horrible - used a Celeron 400 and it was so laggy it was worthless. I don't know what the deal was, probably too slow to run it.
Where's the love for Bob?

Hey I've been using 98 on this computer, format free, for...um...2 and a half years I think. Won't say it hasn't had problems but they were fixed and the comp works decent. Would like a new one (faster, prettier) but this will hold me until I graduate.

FreeSpace 2 has a Linux port and Doom has at least two of them. |

It has something like 20 ports, Doom I mean. Id is one of the few companies that has been generous enough to release their source code after the game or at least provide some level of linux binaries. Most others aren't all that nice, there's always wine but that's hit and miss, companies just don't see any benefit in releasing source codes even if the game has been dead for years. That's what hurts linux in the end Linux does have a few good freeware games, VegaStrike most notably for the simulation crowd or RPG crowd. Still worth the 10 gig partition  |
