Title: Remember Sin? (about the new SiN game)
Post by: shambler on 2005-07-13, 10:25
Remember SiN?

check it out:

http://www.sinepisodes.com/ (http://www.sinepisodes.com/)

I liked it, but it seemed full of bugs, even with all the patches in place.

Is that steam I see at the bottom of the page? Aggggh! not again.

See back in the days of yore  we had these things we called episodes.a game was split into 3 or 4 of them.

Steam. The Enemy. The biggest advert for software piracy since the inception of P2P filesharing.

Never actually played Sin, though I've seen a few crap Q3 level remakes from it.

Just. Typical.

Game is announced. Only artwork made? Check. The 'babe'.
I'm sure they modeled and detailed her already (or perhaps they've got a box full of 'babe' designs ready for the next series of games). I'm sure all the horny teens will jump on it like LSD-frogs again, but I'll wait till I've seen something that means something ;]

Yes, it's Steam, because it's based on the Source engine.  Didn't you read the text, or were you too busy oggling the game's poster girl? ;)

Episodes were common in games like, hmm, let me think... wait... wait... it's coming to me... ahh yes, how about DOOM, and what was that other one?  Oh, right, WOLFENSTEIN 3D.  Come on Kruzader, you can't tell me you've never played either one!   :)~

Tab:  There seemed to be some general confusion about what an episode was, sin or otherwise.

What I meant was : WHAT THE HELL IS SIN? (not the meaning of word, talking about the game). And I KNOW Wolf3D & UltDooM are divided in episodes! I play both games since I have my 80386, that is 1994.

sin was a rather smart little shooter, it combined the feel of games like duke nukem and halflife due to it's weapons and also had a wicked story

and one of the best villians ever Elexis, and most people will have it as a free download through limewire or shareaza, i personally did the sensible thing and bought it

personally has the best selection of weapons, other than gen and blood which if anybody's played, should know that it's well funny

I've just found my old SiN disc, and the mission pack, wages of sin. I might give it another go now. Don't suppose the new one will be out anytime soon.

I loved Sin.  (I really need to hunt down an actual copy of the expansion pack.)  Its single-player was great for its time.  The multi-player also featured some of the most unique maps I have ever played, and the music was great as well.

I am really psyched about Ritual going back to the Sin series.  The episodic approach sounds nifty as well, but damn, do I hate Steam.  Even still, I can understand the decision, however much I dislike it.  I just hope the episodes won't be dependent on Steam to execute.

It was like that with HL2, so i guess it will be the same with this game.

Well, Steam can act like just a delivery service.  The freeware game, Codename: Gordon is distributed via Steam, but it is not dependent on it.  Codename: Gordon does not use the Source engine however so I guess we'll see.

hmm, maybe I should re-install Sin sometime, play some deathmatch.  Back when it came out, I was still on dial-up.  And even if the Sin Episodes are good, I won't be able to play them on my old P3.

You might.... I play generations and ut2004 on my old P3 600 mgz, boosted up to 803 mgz with 640 ram and a FX5200. runs well.

anyone know the min spec for HL2? sin2 will be close to that i exspect.

My p3 933mhz with a gf 4 mx 440 runs HL2 a bit slow, but I'm used to it, since painkiller is sometimes like "bullet-time". Gen has some extremely irritating hickups, even with everything in medium. But yeah this Sin game will run slow as well. BTW the specs are:

OS - 2000/XP/ME/98; Graphics card : DX7
Processor : 1.2Ghz
RAM : 256Mb
HD : My version, the collectior's edition, 5.5 Gb; Normal version : 4.5 Gb;
Internet Connection
DVD-ROM Drive

I guess the requirements will be a bit higher, since it will probably have some changes in the Source engine. I heard they were testing some new lightnings a few months ago, it even appeared in the news page, so expect some new goodies :smirk:

Get yourself a FX5200. if you're in the uk go to cclonline.com. It changed my no.2 comp beyond words to discribe. about ?37. I mainly use this comp for downloads and music, but its really good now. Gives me 1024x768 with 90 FPS in GEN.

For reference, I'm running a GF4 ti4600 and I can hold a steady 125 FPS at 800x600 in Gen unless the map has bad r_speeds, and I can push well over 100, usually between 150 and 220 at 1024x768 if I turn off dynamic lights and disable vsync (since my screen can't go higher than 100 at that res).  The 5200FX I've actually seen slower framerates on a machine with a faster CPU for some games.  I've not actually tested one in Gen.  I'd buy something a bit beefier if you can get it close to the same price, but the 5200 series should perform about on par with a high end GF4 and certainly won't break the bank.

And it was Woodsman's post that led to my thinking you didn't know what an episode was as opposed to what SiN was...  :surprise:

for people who reinstalled their sin game , the guys over at ritualistic are
aranging some deathmatch and CTF games for the old sin again .

God I love SIN .
it had so many new things to offer back then.
-triggable lightning ( yes you could shoot down the lights).
-computers you could hack into
-.the monster powerup.
-hoverbike deathmatch
-pulsegun to deflect weapons.
-real sweet multiplayer levels.
-and yes the music really fitted the levels.
