Hey guys, I want to play this awesome mod but when I click on "get new list" there are only two servers.
The first, which I can join, is empty. On the other one there are 3 players, but I can't join because it says "invalid cd-key" although Quake 3 says that my key is valid. And I tried it with several keys.
Or how could I play with bots?
Please help, I would love to play the game  :doom_love:

Okay, finally I was able to join 71.79.29.239:27967. But there are no real players, only bots. Is nobody playing this game?

Unfortunately, yes.

Active Generations gaming sessions seem to come in waves. When people do get into the action, it's usually during the weekends (which makes sense).

The one thing that really gets things up and going, is a release. It has been quite a while since a public beta-version of the mod was released--though I hasten to stress that development has not halted, and Generations is not dead.

The bots are low skilled but it's fun.

Now I have a new problem, I watched the promo videos again and noticed that I don't have the animations of the weapons when I play. For example, I don't see how the shotgun from Doom is reloaded (you normally see the left hand and stuff).

I just downloaded and installed the "GenArena 99e .EXE Full Installer". After that I used "GenArena 99f .EXE Upgrade Installer" and "Server-side Patch".

What did I do wrong?

You did nothing wrong.  The .99f version does not have the animations in place.  The preview videos are for the upcoming 1.0 version, showing off what is on the way.

I played Domm 1 & 2 and Quake 1 on my first PC, a Pentium 75 when I was a child. So this mod brings up so many memories, I'm in love with these ID games. I will spread this mod!
