The Doom movie is still a viable project and Holleshead said that he is more confident than ever that within 18 months there will be a Doom movie at your local multiplex.

Seconded.

I can imagine Rodney Dangerfield as Dr. Betruger(assuming the movie is based on Doom 3) :P

bad news Rock haters

I think he's already been signed on for this movie after he's done with Spy Hunter. he looked awesome in that shoot-out part in The Rundown, and I think he's a character... I think The Rock would work out well.

it's not Rocky I'm worried about... it's the movie itself. pay mention, years ago they were talking about using Tom Berenger for the Doomguy  :D

Well as long as it's not:

Dolph Lundgren
Steven Segal
Jean Claude VanDamm
Patrick Swayze
Patrick Stewart
Leonard Nimoy
Captain Ki.. er, I mean William Shatner
Richard Gear
Sean Connery
Sean Penn (Eww!)
Elijah Wood
Ian McKellan

or anyone else who can't play a convincing muscle-bound Space Marine.

I think Bruce Willis would be quite fitting as the Doom guy, with Anthony Hopkins as Dr. Betruger. ;P

Title: Re: Doom Movie
Post by: Phoenix on 2004-08-16, 04:33
I can see it now.  :D

*Bruce Willis blows away a demon with a 12 gauge*
"Yippie cay-yay mother..."
*cyberdemon roars and stamps into view*
"Oh s***!"

As with any movie based off of a game, this causes me to think of how hilariously bad it will be.  The only one that truely made me vomit was Mario Bros.  But it is Doom, so there may be hope.

I don't think the guys who made the comic will be doing anything with the movie. ;)

Michael Jackson for Revenent! :thumb:

I think that Michael Jackson would be the best guy to play the paper of the DooM Marine.
can you imagine?

"AAAHHH (really stupid scream) a monster!"
"AAAHHH a Michael Jackson"
But suddently, MJ starts dancing and the monster is gibbed by the power of plastic cirgury
"I rocked your body, huh Cyberdemon?"

 :D  :D

Doubt it. :P
He's too skinny and pale to be the big, meaty Doom guy. ;)

Bruce Willis isn't meaty enough.  The Doom marine needs to have a physique like Ahnold but without the accent.  I think The Rock could do fine in the role IF the movie is taken seriously by the director.  Let' s face it, wrestling IS acting.

Plus he does look a bit like the guy out of D3 ...

I'd rather have Brucie though ...

the doom movie will be good no doubt, game to movies are getting better each time they come out.. the problem is they all seem really short imo. esp AVP, it felt rushed, but a very good movie i thought.

strange but true:

Bruce Campbell was involved with the early doom stuff, as the insperation for Doom was conceived shortly after they had watched Army of Darkness, according to Brucie in the foreward to 'the deathmatch manifesto'  by Rob E Waring.  Seems he knew McGee etc.

what a small world.  This intresting fact was brought to you by the letter S and the supernailgun....

The Rock will not play the central role in the forthcoming Doom movie, id Software reps confirmed over the weekend, although it's possible that he will figure in some way.

CRADLE 2 THE GRAVE helmer Andrzej Bartkowiak has stepped up to helm the Universal Pictures film adaptation of the id Software first-person shooter video game. Bartkowiak, who rose up in the ranks as a director of cinematography before directing such action films as EXIT WOUNDS and ROMERO MUST DIE, replaces Enda McCallion who is departing the director's chair due to unspecified personal reasons.

Some DOOM movie news this morning courtesy of Reuters, as they are reporting that Karl Urban will star in the Universal project. Urban was most recently seen in the The Bourne Supremacy, and he's also been in The Chronicles of Riddick as well as the Lord of the Rings movies Two Towers and Return of the King (as Eomer).

Quote
Urban will play John Grimm, the leader of a special ops team that is at the center of the futuristic action-adventure film. When dealing with alien demons, he is forced to cross paths with the organization responsible for his parents' deaths.

From Planet Doom:

Quote
According to a post over on Homelan Fed and the Hollywood Reporter, British Actress Rosamund Pike will play a scientist named Samantha, opposite the main character in the upcoming film. Pike, who is best known as Miranda Frost in the James Bond film, Die Another Day, will join the other already known cast members, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and Karl Urban in the large screen adapation of the DOOM 3 video game due to hit theaters next year.

Gee, I wonder who the love interest wil be!

I doubt Phobos is even being considered for the movie. And I'm talkin' both the moon and the person. :p

You never know, Phobos could be the token black guy.

BTW, I think Pho needs his own private set of red Doom emoticons.

ya footman.... cause you're such a philosopher.

everyone knows that video game movies get horribly screwed up. seriously dudes, I don't see why you even care about this. the concept of having Tom Berenger play the lead role back in 1995 was more amusing than this..

im not sure what you guys are expecting out of a doom movie.. are you expecting a gorefest or a regular movie? we may know doomguy as flynn taggart, but the general public is nowhere near as obessed as we are.

The DoomGuy has no name. He's supposed to be YOU. He was called Flynn in the novels, Doom in Quake 3, and is John Grimm in the movie.

Seconded - Video game movies suck. End of story, with plenty of reference material (just look up about ANY video game movie and see what I mean). I'm not overly excited about watching yet another story about a scientific experiment gone terribly wrong again.

The question is not whether or not the Doom movie will suck, the question is how much it will suck, and whether or not that suckularity will contribute to it's entertainment factor.

Anyone see Cabin Fever last year? Best comedy of 2003!  :thumb:

http://www.homelanfed.com/index.php?id=26602 (http://www.homelanfed.com/index.php?id=26602)

So here's what we know.  It's a newbie screenwriter who has played video games, including Doom, it's not going to be set on Mars, and The Rock won't raise his eyebrow in the film, and Karl Urban does play the Doom guy.  Despite the changes I'd say it's got a decent chance of success, provided the director doesn't screw it up.  As for why I'd give the newbie screenwriter a better shot at making a decent film?  He's young and ambitious so he's got to take his work seriously, as opposed to some late-career screenwriter that's told "Here, write a script for Doom" and sloshes some horrible piece of writing together.

It could still outright suck, but who knows.  :doomed:

So the chick plays the main character's sister? Atleast that means they won't ruin it with a cheesy love story (unless the writer goes Lucas on our ass).
