Title: .99f Demos!
Post by: Phoenix on 2005-02-06, 08:29
Here's where we'll post any demos from the .99f version of Generaitons Arena.  I've already got two demo packs from our release party.  If you couldn't make it, here's a good look at what you missed:

gen_99f_demopack1.zip (http://www.wireheadstudios.org/generations/demos/gen_99f_demopack1.zip)
gen_99f_demopack2.zip (http://www.wireheadstudios.org/generations/demos/gen_99f_demopack2.zip)
gen_99f_demopack3.zip (http://www.wireheadstudios.org/generations/demos/gen_99f_demopack3.zip)

I recorded some, and Kain recorded some, and Makou some as well.  Unzip to your "generations" folder, it will create the demos directory for you if one does not exist.  Then load up Generations Arena, select Demos, and watch the action!

Are 99e demos compatible with the new version?

Title: Re: .99f Demos!
Post by: Phoenix on 2005-02-09, 10:27
They SHOULD be, I don't think I changed any server data or event handling, but if not you can just temporarily rename the .99f pk3 and Gen will run as .99e.

I've added some more really tense demos - very chaotic and fun games in:

Demos from tonight's TDM match:

gen_99f_tdm_demos_042605.zip (http://www.wireheadstudios.org/generations/demos/gen_99f_tdm_demos_042605.zip)

Unzip to your generations folder.  Three are from my perspective, one is free-floating, though it's bloody hard to get good camera angles on Deadmeat.

And some demos from the (Euro) Strogg vs Earth Team DM night:

Including:

- Frantic fragging on Sainttourney2. Very frantic. Very.
- Dead simple Tab & alu vs up to 6 others, and winning a bit.
- Alu & Scalliano vs. Kingu & LordBane battling 2on2 in q3dm14 and The Edge (spectator demos)
- Tab handicapped balancing a close Iron Yard match.

ggs people, excelling fraggin' this week!

Everyone did a professional job of laying me on the floor, but I'm getting better. ;^)
You know what would be awsome, having Doom vs. Slipgate with enabled techs. That would make great incrediants for some great matches! :^)

Title: Re: .99f Demos!
Post by: Makou on 2005-04-29, 20:56
As much as some people will probably hate me for this, I currently refuse to put a Doom vs. {insert class here} game in the poll at the moment, with or without techs enabled. That would wind up with everybody trying to get on the Doom team, and anybody not on the Doom team would be frustrated as all getout.

If you really want it that badly, you can callvote dmflags and genflags on both Euro and Central. A lof of people forget about that... :ninja:

And if you don't know what a dmflag or genflag is -> :rtfm:

However, when 1.0 comes around, assuming I'm still running the custom game nights, that week will automatically be Doom vs. Slipgate TDM. That's a grudge match that just has to happen, but not until some physics issues are fixed and balance questions have been answered -- a battle that will be that heated needs to on as level a playing field as possible, and right now, because of messed up jump physics, even Earth can easily outrun Slipgate (unless your name is Tabun).

So stick around, it will happen... eventually. :slippy_thumb:

Title: Re: .99f Demos!
Post by: Moshman on 2005-04-29, 21:27
Huh, is Doom really that powerful?

Title: Re: .99f Demos!
Post by: Makou on 2005-04-29, 21:35
That was the opinion of many people a few months ago. There are a few really simple things that should help to balance it out a bit, primarily the weapon animations -- that'll slow down Doom's weapon switching, which right now, is just as fast as Arena's and can really allow someone who knows the class to rip things up with ease.

But, one of the biggest reasons is Slipgate's kind of screwed up physics at the moment. For some reason, jumping as Slipgate causes the player to slow down. That's a big no-no where I come from.

Title: Re: .99f Demos!
Post by: Thomas Mink on 2005-04-29, 22:19
I have no problems playing as Slipgate, it always has been my class of choice. I'm also not too big on jumping, so the slowdown goes unnoticed to me.

All that being said... I think I said this in one of Pho's TDM demos, but whatever... I suck without Slippy rockets. And the Shaft... which I usually use to mop up after a rocket hit or two.

I will say this tho... Doom is a lot more durable than I thought he was. In one of the games against Pho (not on a demo), I hit him with some random rocket splashes, a second or two of shaft hits.. and he was still going strong! Granted, the time limit was hit right then... in which case he said, "I'd have teleported anyway," after I started bragging about my moment of glory that was to come. *sigh*... I can never win. :)

:ownage:

Here are some demos from some April 29th matches, a bunch of people showed up.

There are 4 parts, personally, I like part 4 the best.

Here is the 4mb zip file.

http://www.ripway.com/members/getfile.asp?...810lw_demos.zip (http://www.ripway.com/members/getfile.asp?file=2005-4297810lw_demos.zip)

if it doen't work try to copy the url to the adress bar. Thing's screwy like that sometimes.

Maybe someone can give me some playing tips. ;^)

If anyone wants slipgate jumping lessons, just holler. For some reason it seems very hard for people to figure out, so whether or not you master normal strafejumping with (say) the Arena class, feel free to ask, and I'll demonstrate.

Title: Re: .99f Demos!
Post by: scalliano on 2005-05-01, 14:25
I do concede that Doom's weapon switching is way too fast, but as a Doomer myself I find it ironic that on Wednesday night I almost won Q1DM1 as Slippy. I was beaten by 1FRAG which is unusual for me. One of the most intense games I've had in a long time  :slippy_thumb:

That would be awsome. I always fall in the void or kill myself because I don't know how to do such things.

Some (Euro) Doom FFA night demos (1 in my pov, 1 in kingu's/shambler's pov) for youse:

http://www.tabun.nl/tmp/tab_20050513_demos.zip (http://www.tabun.nl/tmp/tab_20050513_demos.zip)

I've also added another Doom-related demo in there, a 4vs1 (4vsTab in this case) on TDM Tuesday, in which I get pissed off at the Doom BFG, and claim revenge by returning the favor.

I still say we should do an EVERYONE vs us two at one point or other, that should be interesting...

But now, on-topic!

Some fresh demos of this weekend's (Euro) forum game!
Hot action in Llurk's Q2DM8, Stormatorium and (handicapped) excitement in Iron Yard. Enjoy:

Title: Re: .99f Demos!

A little later than I'd hoped, but there were a lot of demos to sort through. I didn't get a chance to see all of them, but I just picked whatever seemed pleasurable to watch, and made a quick selection. No ownage fragfests in this batch, though - I tried to get the fun stuff, mostly.

2005 july demos downloadable here (http://www.tabun.nl/tmp/gen/tab_200507_demos.zip)

The pack contains:
- a few hilarious demos from our custom Super-High-Knockback night (yay slippy rockets!) - this is certainly a keeper for custom gametypes :]
- A short series of Alu-loving-the-void in Q3DM18 - labeled 'void' in the filename. Set handicap 30, select class Slipgate and off we go! - recommended to do for players :]
(I've also included a demo in which alu manages to get over -10 in Q3DM9, by sheer bad luck and accidental void-diving - couldn't resist!)
- An insane beserk streak in Q3DM13.
- And a fairly normal game in H2SO4, for good measure.
- A TDM demo.
- Phoenix free-for-alling the shite out of some Euro's, quite recently.

If someone wants to see more 'normal' demos, just holler - but I think these will be entertaining.. :]

Yeah, those are my favourites too. I've picked some more of the earlier games this month. A bit less humour (although one freaky game in sainttourney2 features bots :]). This zip contains more hard, fast action, for those not entirely amused by the previous batch.

More demos from july 2005 (http://www.tabun.nl/tmp/gen/tab_200507_2_demos.zip)

Have fun!

And a new batch folks! We played some VERY tense games tonight, even though we were with but three players. Alu, kingu and I kicked the shit out of several maps. Mostly we played TDM (duh, it's tuesday), and mostly it was 2on1.

What's included
- A Q1DM1 2on1 tdm game where I try a 'secret' that Alu showed me before we started..
- A Simply Dead 2on1
- A Q2DM1 2on1 which ends with a 1-frag difference (I had to use some serious guerilla tactics there..)

And last but definitely not least:
- A custom night test that is NUTS. Handicap 1, g_knockback 5000, Slipgaters and space map. With some adjustments that could be one hell of a fun custom game set-up - too bad handicaps can't be forced ;]

Tabun's July 27th demos (http://www.tabun.nl/tmp/gen/tab_20050727_tdm_and_fun.zip)

Custom Thursday Games. We decided to try something new. Something ridiculous. Something wicked.
I call it: Voidality gaming.

3x the knockback for all weapons, everyone using handicap 10 at max and loading mainly space-maps. The goal? See as little of the void as possible, while making sure the others visit it as much as you can!

We played for quite a while, but I've thrown together a selection of the best games:
Q3DM17, Q3DM18 and Q3DM19. Welcome to the void!

He has his broadband connection, and pings very nicely to the Euro server. Finally he is no longer hindered by latency and packetloss! Ofcourse, we'll expect him to join in a lot more games now, and once he's gotten used to his new connection, we'll all have to work hard to keep up with him :]

The server was packed with about 6-8 players on most maps. 'twas fun! :]

Fresh demos!

There has been more and more excellent gaming going down at the Euro server, lately. These week, we had at least two long sessions with a veritable crowd making the playing field a dangerous one indeed...

So, I bring you a selection of demos from these games. Today we played voidality, so obviously demos from that cannot be omitted. Two days before that, we played some TDM (including the popular and damnable 'lets all kill Tab' teamgames) and much ass was kicked, names were taken and fun was had. Make no mistake about that. I've also thrown a crowded FFA game demo in there for good measure.

Have fun!

They were fun indeed.

As to anyone questioning the name "BloodthirstyDragon" in some of the demos...that's just me in my chainsaw phase, but I didn't bother changing my name back when I played normally again. ;)

WHS Central was invaded by Euros last night, and we had quite a fun game.  I took one demo from various points of view.  You can snag it here:

Too bad I missed it. I really don't like falling asleep at random times.

Ah well, at least I caught you and Makou in there when I connected.

It's been quiet on the Demo-front lately, and people haven't been playing much Generations. Nevertheless, Krypto has joined the roster and I've recorded some demos of him, Pho, Alu and myself kicking some ass. Great fun.

Here's some demo-material for you, five demos:
20070922_demos.zip (http://www.tabun.nl/tmp/gen/20070922_demos.zip)

2 demos are 3rd person recordings, wherein I fly around the map often catching rather spectacular battles on "camera". The rest is Tab POV recorded.

Check the Q3DM6 demo (at ~2:50, especially) to catch some particularly nasty Lost Soul of Vengeance usage. Also entertaining: see Alu play CounterStrike-style in mksteel!

Aww, no demo of Simply Dead?  :(

I'm not going to subject people to my off-mouse-sensitivity, puke-inducing, jarred viewpoint movement. Not even for Simply Dead. :]

I wouldn't mind seeing it from a different perspective.  I always forget to record demos when I play.

Fragging into the new year!  Here's some demos of some Euro action from yesterday, our first game of 2008.  Suspects involved in this mayhem are:

Footman
Alucard
Galactis
Puma
Myself (naturally)

Tabun missed the party, so unfortunately all demos are recorded from my own perspective.  I did get one free floating demo.  If you want to get a few cackles at Phoenix void diving view the one for Hero Keep.  Seven demos in all.  Here's the link:
