I remember seeing this shortly after Rage was released.  Rage is a pretty good game despite the lack of graphical options and a rather unpolished release.  Config editing (and not owning an ATI graphics card) solved things for me.  The splash screens in modern games are definitely irritating though.  I do miss having a short manual to read while installing that goes over the basics instead of being hand-held (or wing-held in my case) through the first part of a game.  RTFM, start game, configure basic stuff, and start killing things.  That's how it should be.  I do hope Doom 3 and Quake 5 turn out to be monster fests with lots of adrenaline and less of that "story" stuff to get in the way.  :shifty:

Doom 3? Don't you mean Doom 4? ;)

That video needs to be about 75% pointless story bullshit.

Sure the couple of paragraphs of text each episode were... questionable at best but it was better than being beaten over the head with pointless plot and exposition.

I really didn't have those problems since I was playing the Xbox 360(don't worry I use a different controller) version. Quakes manuals were awesome I liked especially the Quake 2 prelude-ish manual. The gameplay is what matters, hordes of difficult enemies(hopefully isn't overkilled enemies like some games do), with awesome weapons. I'll stick with manuals, or story unlocks  :doom_thumb:
I'd also like to mention this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C4yIxUOWrtw

I take it that was patterned after how COD actually plays?  :wtf:

Slow gameplay, annoying conversation, AC-130's, little enemies, yep. :doomed:

These videos are classic.  There's an SMB1 video (or series of images) out there somewhere if I remember correctly lampooning the BS in games today.

Unfortunately... you speak the truth. I laughed at those vids but you know they'd be modeled like that. There are no real manuals anymore. Hell, BF3 didn't come with one. I had to use in game ques to figure it out. Thank God I've played the other games and had a basic understanding of what was going on.

Anyone seen the Doom (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C4yIxUOWrtw) one? It's actually playable!

Hahaha, good links all around.

As a side note, Rage (on console) wasn't too bad. My major complaint though was the lack of a full campaign co-op. As a game which is easily compared to Borderlands, it seems like a big hole in the feature set not to include the same co-op options, and these days if my girlfriend can't play the game with me, then it ain't gonna to get played.
