Title: Doom Exploding Barrel (well, not quite exploding yet, but still)
Post by: Tabun on 2003-02-05, 16:08
For those that remember the old version - yes, the only difference is that it has 16 instead of 8 sides now ;]
For those who didn't, here's the doom barrel:

Looks good.  Maybe Tabun should have his own forum category, since he's so prolific ;)

what not exploding yet . aaarrrgh .

hey wait a minute dead could make his barrels explode .
why not use his code and those barrels.

(dead use those barrels in your doom map looks much better :):):):)

He certainly can't spell, so I wouldn't expect him to be able to read. Stop setting such high expectations for poor little games keeper

Nice barrel Tab! But I think you might want to change the acids... looks to plain...

I agree Lunatic Guy, though I think a nice shader could probably fix it...

Ofcourse, had you thought ahead a bit or known my work/previews better, you'd both have known there already is a shader, but my (preferred) model viewer just doesn't show it  :]
Deform didn't work well, so just a nice liquid shader looks alright.

Well, it didn't end up any prettier when I tried the same thing  :) .

Tab has done a good work with this,as usual :) I could take a bath in it. Could you send me one to Finland?

As a temporary solution I'd like to know how Q-Fraggel got his to explode

Just a thought, Add a one sided brush up top that gives off smoke, or bubbles, vapors, fumes, or whatever

Since barrels are unique items in the code, we can easily add in some kind of bubble or smoke effects at the origin point of the model.

Tab, the vertex mapping on the top of the slime, how did you do that?  If it's just a bunch of straight triangles the deform won't work, but if you did a mesh that has vertices scattered around the inside of the surface we can do a proper deform.  Example:

The mesh on the left is bad for deformations.  The mesh on the right will deform nicely, as shown in the barrel mockup below it.  :P

Atm, it has no deformations :]
I just remembered that LooF was the one who played around with it back then, and couldn't get it to work, while I myself didn't know much about deforming. I'll whip up a new top-mesh - It's not like we need to save on polies now ;]
