Pyros make good spycheckers.  Just torch anyone coming near your engineer's sentry gun, or near your intelligence (briefcase is the "flag" in CTF mode) or control point.  If they light on fire they're a spy.  If they do not, they're on your team.

I did accidentally headshoot a disguised spy once.  I was aiming at an enemy heavy when a pyro that apparently was on my team got right in front of the crosshair when I fired.  When the gun went bang I saw a dead blue spy where the pyro had been.
