Still Going In Circles

« on: 2005-06-28, 19:51 »

OK, so I'm late but still, I think this topic was necessary:

Wolfenstein 3D - October 10, 1992
DooM -  February 12 1994
DooM II - May 5, 1994
Quake -  May 31 1996
Quake II - November 11 1997
Quake III - December 5 1999
DooM III - August 3 2004
Quake IV -  18 October, 2005

Dates retrieved from www.GameSpy.com.

So Wolf 3d has 13 years, DooM has 11 years, DooM II has 11 years, Quake has 8  years, Quake II has 8 years, Quake III has 5 years and DooM III has 1 year.

I dont know if you people noticed it , but the time between 2 games is always getting longer and longer , just a little note ( don't explain it to me , I know people are more and more demanding in games )

True. The time between Quake III and DooM III was way too big, mut maybye it was because the game itself was really hard to code and hard to put it in DooM's storyline. I mean, Quake III's storyline is nothing compared to the other games storyline, it was obvious that all they wanted to do was to release that engine, wich they fortunatly did. They left the rest to the game community. All great games take time to be completed.

As people want more and more detail, it takes longer to produce.

Not to mention length of game is sacrificed to meet deadlines.

I take it those are the dates that those games went gold, and not when they were actually released.  Cuz Quake II did not come out in November.  And Quake III Arena came out December 3rd, 1999, not sure when it went gold.  So those dates are a little off.

P.S., I just noticed that this is an old freaking topic.  Slipgate - Grin

I took these dates from Wikipedia, but if they are wrong, please post the correct release date.

EDIT : Now updated dates from GameSpy.

It's Quake III Arena's Birthday! If it wasn't for it, we wouldn't be able to play Gen! Happy B-Day Q3A!
