I was wondering if Gen is compatible (unofficially, of course) with any engine mods that have been released since the opening of Quake 3's source code? If so, are there any particular engine mods that one would recommend?

I would think that the current public version would be compatible with an engine which is compatible with quake 3 1.32 mods, but you'd probably want to wait for Phoenix to answer that Slipgate - Thumbs up!

I have not tested .99f with any engine mods.  I know one person had some trouble with ioquake3 a while back, but I cannot confirm the details.  Gen pushes Q3 pretty hard in some areas and uses some tricks to get around some limitations.  If an engine mod pruned out some network variables that I use then it will fail.  Otherwise as long as it processes .qvm modules and system traps the same as normal Q3 it should run fine.

The next version of Gen will require and be released with its own engine mod in order to get around some limitations in the existing Quake 3 engine and (hopefully) provide for some better effects such as improved dynamic lighting, a more efficient particle system, and several bug fixes to name a few things.

Alright, thanks for the answer, Phoenix!

And, um... just for the record... when is that next version of Gen coming out? Tell me, pretty please? *bats eyelashes*

I can only give the only honest answer I know.

When it's done.

I use ioq3 for my bot games in .99f without any issues and the increased zonemegs allow for Gen to be used with those huge terrain maps without getting ZMAlloc failures all over the shop.

Not to mention that on my setup it's the only way to fix that bloody skybox, bar disabling texture filtering altogether (stupid NVidia control panel ...).

But, as Pho said, .99f is as good as you'll get with a third-party engine.

You don't have to disable filtering, just turn of "Conformant Texture Clamp".
