Title: The Killa has returned. (Well sortof.)
Post by: Krazy-Killa on 2003-05-15, 22:31
Well, hey all.  Sorry for not being around for such a long time.  I got grounded from my computer 2 months ago, and it's still in effect until June 13th.  Hopefully I'll be back again after that.

So how has everyone been for the past 2 months?

Well foot's right on that one. :(  And let's just say if I don't get anything above a C by the end of the year, I'm off for the summer as well. :(

Wish me luck on that.  LOL

Good advice for college students: at the first sign of an asswipe professor trying to play hardball, drop the class and add a different one, especially if the class the asshole is teaching happens to be fairly irrelevant to your major. When I say irrelevant, I mean any class that doesn't directly focus on what you want to learn: this includes required elective classes and departments other than what you're actually majoring in. I once tried to last through an American Lit 2 English course that was required for my degree but not relevant at all which was tought by some punkass wannabe bigshot. That was the biggest mistake I made academicly speaking that semester. Had I dumped that crap on the first day like I knew I should my other grades could've been B's or A's instead of all C's. I still wish there were fewer nosy perverts on campus though.

Hmm...most of the time your advice can be sound, Vader.  Unfortunately there are some classes that are either irrelevant but you must take it as a prereq for the next class which is relevant or the class is relevant, but the prof is still a big dick.  I've had plenty of both in my experience.

If you can drop it and take it another time with a decent prof, do it.  If not...you can either say you're screwed and admit defeat, thus letting the professor win by beating you down, or you can tough it out, stick to it.  Yes, you may end up with a C but you would not have let the smeggers get you down and discourage you!

I've had professors that made me question whether or not the path I was on was truly my life's calling.  After contemplating dropping the course and changing my major for aout 15 seconds, I got mad.  That one jackass is NOT going to alter what I want to do with my life!  I will NOT let anyone steer me away from my goal.

Do what you have to do.  That's what I say.  If that means taking the class another time, cool.  If that means putting up with a dickhead that's standing in your way, you can be tough enough and strong enough to survive and move on.

Yes you more or less summed it up Demonwench. If you can't get by some turd in one class try another section or try it again at a later date. If you must, go to another school. I left UT Knoxville all those years ago and finished up an associates degree at Pellissippi. I can still go somewhere and finish up my bachelor's degree. One of the biggest hassles is always money. Until you're past 24 years old a lot of people will stay in the wringer. Once you pass 24, a lot more financial aid falls in your hands. It's amazing the difference a few years makes. The other part of the problem is making the grades, because if you're getting financial aid, you have to maintain a minimum GPA and stay at least half time level. If you fall below 12 credit hours, your aid is cut drasticly. If you fall below 6 credit hours you lose it all. When I get my suit on, I'll get the South Pacific and Australia. Just try to stop me.
