Windows-XP has a "feature" (???) with which it is possible to manually crash a system by simply holding the right CTRL key and pressing the "Scroll Lock" key twice.

When I biult my last comp I was undecided about an OS. I decided to stick with ME, as It had never given me any problems. (Iknow I'm the only one!)

seems XP is a 'pile O shite'

anyone know where I can get a free, legal linux download? Till then I'm sticking with ME :D  :D

Any Linux download should be free and legal, but try www.redhat.com for a start.

Ew, Shambler. ME? Come on now, that's digusting, obscene behavior and I don't think it should be allowed on these boards. Think of the children, for god's sake! :P

I remember using ME... I went back to 98 SE pretty damn quick. Of course, I've been running 2000 Pro for quite a while now, and have never had any of the stupid little problems that one would normally get with previous versions.

XP annoyed me. Everything was too automated. Even after you went through the entire OS and turned off every stupid little GUI feature, you'd still have wizards popping up trying to teach you how to right click or something... Way too newbie-friendly for my tastes. I need bare-bones stuff  ;)

As for Linux... Redhat now has a commercial version, I believe. Personally though, I've always favored Mandrake *shrugs*

dev/nul if you can stand the price you could switch to windows server 2k3.  It'srun great for me and doesn't have the Fisher Price interface that xp has (yes an end to the dam wizzards).  It is a server os but most of that stuff can be turned off or just not installed.  it runs games great and even runs some old dos games that win2k won't.

I don't understand why everybody complains about the wizardness of  XP.  I don't have all these wizards you speak of...  I am using XP Pro - is that different than XP Home in this regard?

First of all, why would I want to crash WinXP manually when it is perfectly capable of crashing itself without any input from me at all? (so much for Service Packs ...)

I have XP set up so that I don't get any of this wizard shite and it looks like PROPER Windows, none of this curvy blue plasticky "suitable for under-5's" crap.

And who's bright idea was the "Messenger Service"??? I spent weeks trying to find out how to turn the damn thing off!

and we can thank the ScreenSavers for broadcasting how to do that on national television so that it went from once in a blue moon to 200 times a day.  Messenger spam sucks but it only got bad after they did that.

im sorry.. but i find that at lans, that testing who has the messager service turned on is funny as hell.. oddly enough it always seems to be the counter strike players..

I can't stand such prices, but somehow I always find a way to "afford" programs that cost several hundred dollars ;P

Turning the messenger services off is pretty simple though, so when you take that into account, it doesn't really become too much of a problem.
