and I have a major problem... it's with all you Doom-loving fools! and that pesky bird Phoenix, psshhhh... I'll destroy him with my axe. most feared with a BFG9000, my ass. I'll redefine fear with my rocket launcher just like I did back in 1997.

that's right, I declare war on Doom. everyone knows Slipgate is superior.

next week's custom game night is scheduled to be whatever the winning gametype of the poll is. we all know QWCTF is the best gametype ever, so Punisher and I will crack your skulls like hella. either way, you're gonna get the beatdown of a lifetime.

after talking with Pho and Con about it, the Slipgate vs. Doom war will be determined in a 3 Stages of Hell match. in which case, you'll get beaten down again, but just in case you get lucky, I'll lay out the rules: the winner of the best of 3 will be the winning class.

the 3 Stages of Hell will be as follows:

1.) Team DM (Slipgate vs. Doom)
2.) Classic CTF match (grapples, Slipgate vs. Doom)

then if there's a tie (note, if, since we're gonna probably win anyway), then the final phase will be...
3.) Fully-Loaded FFA

the winner of FFA will determine which class is superior. in which case, we all know I'm gonna win, so Slipgate will be proven once again as the superior class.

two teams will need to be assembled, one for each class. as it stands, team MDK (Slipgate) contains myself, Punisher, Dicion, ConfusedUs, and Lilazzkicker.

oh and if you Earth, Strogg and Arena fools were wondering why you're excluded: it's cause your classes suck and you're not even worthy of being classed on the same level as us. Doom can take you all on, but Slipgate will crush Doom. henceforth, Slipgate will crush you all. HAHAHA!!!!

Genialus has a definite point. I'm sure it's just a way of trying to be funny, so whatever.. :]
But at this point, the only thing you have to do to prove that slipgate is 'superior', is to just.. muck around, click your button once in a while when you have the RL (that last bit shouldn't be too tough in a fully loaded game) - and voila! A Win ™.

And  mecha, I kinda suspected it was just for fun, otherwise I wouldn't have tried to be polite. If you want to promote the mod i think you should post about in other forums, I learned about it in the anti-cs forum (www.anti-cs.com)

I'm not sure I want to go into the doom vs slipgate discussion I am better when I use doom but I sometimes get a feeling that it's just because I don't know how to use the slipper...

I just love the slipgate, as I know it best, but I like to play different  classes now (after 4 weeks? of playing) as different levels need different tactics.

You'll regret having me and Phoenix on the same team, let alone both Doomers  :evil:

Oh hell, I'd LOVE to be in on that, but d3d makes my comp freak out, video stops responding, etc.. Maybe I can dump q3 on my lil bro's box, that MIGHT work..

1.) Team DM - Doom

The fact that you all feel you have something to prove here is a serious sign of insecurity.  I don't have anything to prove because I've kicked just about everyone's butt with the Doomer on a regular basis.  I'm still the long running king of Generations FFA.  Still, if you insist on going through with this then I will humor you.  Even if Tek and myself have to take you all on 2 vs 4 you'll have a fight you won't soon forget.  Just remember that if you lose you're going to be seriously humiliated for calling this match.

i dont think there are a shortage of doomers. frankly with pho con and tekhead on the doom side the slippy bitches dont stand a chance. i wanted to play but frankly with any more than the three of them on one team it just woulnt be fair to the slippy kiddys.

Doom's strongest point is its super shotgun combined with his speed.  

Slipgate...has the best rocket launcher, period. Thats about it, though. The shaft is pretty good, also, but drains ammo too fast, so if  you just pick up one, you'll only have 15 shots, lasting about 5 seconds.

1 shaft pickup = 1 dead opponent if used properly!

Or if you're in the water and bored with life ;)

I used to be a cheap ass back when I played Q1 DM / QWCTF and would discharge in the water to kill multiple guys. I'd lose a frag for the suicide ... but I'd gain about 3-5 more in return (depending on how big of a game it was) ... I'd also piss a lot of people off by doing this.

honestly, I sucked at Q1 DM when I played on Mplayer for MMA and every single match was played on dm3. so I'd just resort to snatching up a shaft and discharge in the water whenever multiple people were in it. I figure if we're gonna get our asses kicked and lose, I might as well piss some people off doing it. ;)

since the red armor, and typically the runes, were located in the pool area of McKinley Base (and whaddya know, there's a shaft right in that area!) I used to do the same exact thing. that was done a little more sparingly though --- never did it in matches.

anywho... the shaft is effective despite how fast it drains energy. you just have to learn how to aim properly. I actually favor the shaft over the BFGs for the mere fact that the BFG is a lame weapon and that only in Q3's case, you can actually "use" the gun. the shaft is powerful, but takes a higher degree of skill to use properly.

Oh, so you Doom fanboys are getting all hot and bothered because of Slippy's obvious superiority, eh?  Guess I'll have to join up and put you in your place! ;)

I'll definitely be there whenever the big match takes place, it sounds like it'll be a blast.

edit: seriously, i think Doom and Slipgate are fairly well balanced against each other.  Doom is faster than Slipgate and has a lethal combat shotgun, plasma rifle, and BFG.  Even his rockets are effective, if a little slow.  Slipgate, though slightly slower than Doom, has a grenade launcher for around-the-corner ownage, fast rockets, the thunderbolt, and good air control.  As for which team will win the match, guess we'll just have to see.

The shaft is just very comparable to the other chain/lightning weaponry, but it's just a lot faster in both dealing damage, and draining ammo. Not that hard to use once you've got the aim going.

I didn't read through all of this, but I read enough to get the idea.

I personally think the BFGs are overrated, especially the 9000. Sure, it kills me every now and again, but knowing how to avoid the flash is over half of the battle against it, and it really isn't all that hard.

While I have trouble aiming it at times, due to lag, I think the shaft could be far more effective. All a doomer has to do, though, is prevent Slippy from getting rockets or the shaft. And with Pho and Tek on the same team, it'll be had as hell to get either... and that's just saying them alone, not the others who'll be there as well.

But hey... whatever. I haven't played in months, not like it mattered since I sucked anyway (but could still win on my own creation! [q1dm4v2] muahahahaha!) and wasn't getting any better. I will still give my support to my favorite class, especially since Con is to be feared as Slipgate. GO SLIPGATE!

On a semi-related note, tonight is the Doom custom game on US Central (but we all know who really won the vote ;) ).  I'll try my hand at playing as Doom, just to remind myself how wholly inferior he is to Slippy. :D

I don't think dooms worst than slippy, just better balanced. I think that dooms the harder to play mind. I love that shot gun.

I fail to see how slipgate is better. Doom can kill people with damn near all of his weapons. Slippy has.. what? 3? RL/GL/LG. Anything else and he's screwed.

Slippy's powerful, but for all intents and purposes, he's a one gun wonder. Really is a pity there aren't any good maps entirely devoid of lightning/explosives.

Coriolis Storm by Lunaran is a good anti-slippy map. It has FOUR (yes four) shotgun spawns.

Earth and Doom love it. Too bad Lee had a falling out with Lunaran way back when... (over mis-spelling Lunaran's name, no less)

I agree, lun3dm1 is a good map. Nice and horizontal. Good for the CG as well.

ok, as far as scheduling this Quake vs. Doom match, this week is gonna be shitty, and so's next week. this week, on account of work, plus I need to allocate a day or two this weekend to study for my midterm I thought was last week... but wound up getting pushed to after the spring break (which I'm on now). then I'd gladly partake in the CTF match Wednesday night.

after that though, things should work out fine. :x

I'm making a suggestion for replacing Monday, March 22nd's Custom game with the 3 Stages of Hell: Quake vs. Doom match. if people are too absorbed in playing Doom CTF or something and don't wanna get their asses handed to them by Slipgate, then we'll just have to pick another date. :evil:

Try the unexspected sometimes.

This gives you at least the element of surprise. Mind sometimes it makes you look stupid too.

Mecha: I don't like replacing the user-voted custom match with a personal grudge match (since that's more or less how this started).

There's four days of the week that we don't have scheduled games. Pick one. ;)
