I measured it out, and it turns out to be 6.5 seconds from base to base

Still damn quick though =D

There, maybe NOW people will stop bitching about slippy's supposed lack of mobility...

Lack of mobility? WTF have you been sniffing??

I've been doing some more 'trickjumps' on Q3DM17, albeit not with slipgate. Some people expressed their doubts whether the jump could be made from the map towards the railgun platform or not, even though it was easy enough the other way around. So, to prove it can be done, I made the jump:

First, a fun one, but not entirely without 'cheating':
http://www.planetquake.com/tabun/tmp/q3dm17-2.dm_68 (http://www.planetquake.com/tabun/tmp/q3dm17-2.dm_68)

And this proves that the actual rocketjump can be done:
http://www.planetquake.com/tabun/tmp/q3dm17-3.dm_68 (http://www.planetquake.com/tabun/tmp/q3dm17-3.dm_68)

(and the demo I posted in the 'strogger jacked up' thread:
http://www.planetquake.com/tabun/tmp/q3dm17-1.zip (http://www.planetquake.com/tabun/tmp/q3dm17-1.zip))

I need Slippy lessons. :P
Tek, when does class start? ;)

Tek should write up a quick article for the best places to use slippy's moves. I'd throw it up on the upcoming articles page ;)

Well, I just found a third way to rocketjump to the railgun platform in Q3DM17. Easiest one yet, I should say, but it's more like a rocketsjump ;]

http://www.planetquake.com/tabun/tmp/q3dm17-4.dm_68 (http://www.planetquake.com/tabun/tmp/q3dm17-4.dm_68)
And a nice variation on it:
http://www.planetquake.com/tabun/tmp/q3dm17-5.dm_68 (http://www.planetquake.com/tabun/tmp/q3dm17-5.dm_68)

Mind you, I'm utterly convinced it can be done with only one, much the same way, but I was too lazy to get that right and on demo. Bite me.

For those either unable to watch demos, or too lazy to give it a go, perhaps this might come in handy:

http://www.planetquake.com/tabun/tmp/q3dm17avi.zip (http://www.planetquake.com/tabun/tmp/q3dm17avi.zip)
7 Mb download, XviD compression.

Didn't make it because I felt it was nescessary for these jumps specifically, but I wanted to play about with Quake 3 vids. I used just about any tool I had at my disposal, but the version up for download was made with QVM (http://www.swift-tools.net/Quake/QVM/).

More fun on q3dm17

Could someone make some out of Tek's demos?

I require a 99e update! I'm just getting into the world of trickjumping, but now that the new version has rendered these demos obsolete, I would like to see new demonstrations with the current version.

Post by: Tabun on 2004-09-12, 14:23
Either that, or Tek has to make some nice vids out of the old demos ;]

Not a trickjump demo, but amusing nonetheless.

Bah tek, you're thinking like a schoolboy right there, think like a geek! Reproduce? That's a word related to sex. You HAVE the demos, and if you haven't got an old 99d install somewhere, you're not fit to call yourself a beta-tester! ;]

Title: Re: Slipgate Trickjumping!
Post by: Assamite on 2004-09-22, 01:01
Well, I managed to dig up an old 99d install... only to find out that the demos are no longer available to download... >_<

d'oh!

Oh well, maybe it'd be a good idea to get a proper 99e demo series going anyway ;]
I might play around with some tricks and get them avi'd..
