I was just wandering...Where do we get that FLY powerup??

One of the floaty maps, Q3DM19 I believe. Its not a very good powerup, IMHO.

heh flight is the most useless power-up ever... just don't like it

its only there so you can fly underneath the level and find the easter egg .

the only good usses I find it is on the padmaps .

There's also one in our map "Swiss Cheese Trickster". It's hidden, however.

I've gotten some good kills with it in vQ3, the few times I played that map online. It gives you the perfect angle for rocket shots, plus you get the element of surpise as most people don't bother to look up.

Even if your wings were clipped, the results would be the same.   <3

Q3DM19 is Space Chamber. I've already checked the level and nothing. Could you tell me exactly where it is? PLEASE!??!!!

I play VQ3 regularly and the servers include Q3DM19. Whenever anyone grabs flight, they're, well, floating ducks. I just rail them out of the sky, preferrably when they're over the edge :]

That's because they don't use it correctly for Q3DM19.  An open map like that it's foolish to fly around in open space because it makes you a target.  Rather it is better to use the flight to better navigate to the upper platforms to reach areas that would normally take more time to get to, or would be more dangerous to travel to in the normal manner.  It also affords an opportunity to take by surprise somewhat those who might be camping up top. :)

Oh they're TRYING to use it correctly. All I'm saying is.. well.. they can't :]
It's a hell of a long way from the bottom of the map to the upper levels, if all 15 or 20 FFA players (all skilled to the point of being very annoying indeed) want you down the second you pick it up.
It gets a player the attention quad would, but without most of the ability to fight off the hordes :)

Flight would be so much more useful in maps like Q3DM11 or 12, where you can hover off to sneaky places ;]

If you can find it, it's highly useful for getting to the Quad secret, unless you are one SERIOUS rocket-jumper.

Though for the most part, flight is spectator mode with a gun and an increased ability to die at the hands of someone with any sort of ability to use a Railgun.

The words "turkey" and "shoot" come to mind.

By the way, it's not really a 'Flight' powerup as it is, is it? Wouldn't it be much cooler if you could 'flap your wings' by pressing the jump button, and gaining speed so it would kind of feel like soaring like a bird? The powerup as it is, looks to me like a cheap quick hack by id.

Those ID boys sometimes are naughty. You're right Tabun, that powerup is more float than fly. -_-

krusader , the easter egg is benath the level of q3dm19 , just take the flight , fly under the map and look up .

Would it be feasable to bolster the speed of the user using flight, regardless of class, to make it slightly more useable? I'm thinking about matching the speed of the doomer.

games keeper: The easter egg is strange...it looks like a ball with stakes...

Tekhead: I think that Float (that's how i call it) should be a bit more faster than Doom, but not as fast as Speed powerup.

I think Pho should decide on this one. Not only is he going to be the one coding it, if changes are made at all, but he's the avian expert, obviously.

I'll be the first to admit that Earth is a slug and a pin-up target with Flight.  Any time I've used Flight seriously I've been Doom, and anyone who has played me on Swiss Cheese Trickster knows how dangerous I am with that thing.  I've got no problem with giving everyone the same flight speed, and I think Doom's speed while flying is just perfect to make that a bit more useful.

Tab:  A 15 to 20 player FFA is not what I had in mind.  I'm thinking more along the lines of 4-6 players, which is closer inline to what I've played there.  15-20 player games you'll have fun even getting a weapon on that map unless you spawn next to it.  Can you say "machinegun kills"?  :smirk:

Besides that, Arena class just isn't well suited for air to ground bombardments.  Doom's rocket launcher is twice as lethal from above as it is fired from the ground.  Arena is "meh" all around anyway.  Give him a BFG and he MIGHT be dangerous from the air.
