Title: Hey, stop the BS already! Post by: ConfusedUs on 2004-09-20, 02:55 There's been a lot of bullshit going on between the GenArena old-time regulars, and the majority of the new players (who are mostly SA goons).
It all comes down to the fact that our old-timers are of the 'play nice' school of thought, while most of you guys are of the opinion you should 'just play'. A few specifics come to mind here: - alarm's banning (which pissed off the goons) - cunnelatio's camping/whining/dickhead behavior (which pisses our regulars off) - Omega-X's behavior, which includes breaking the rules (trash talking, among other things) but trying to get others banned for the same behavior (this pisses everyone off) I'm tired of the bullshit, both from our admins and our players, and so are most of you. We figure the best way to stop all the crap is to just seperate the 'play nice' people from the 'just play' people. I've spoken with Phoenix, and he likes this idea. Proposed Solution GenArena Central #1 (port 27960) will still operate under our old rules. Don't be a dick here. GenArena Central #2 (port 27966) will no longer be monitored as closely. A no rules server, as it were. The admins will still take a hand if anyone's caught cheating (or other serious infractions) of course, but we'll leave it alone for the most part. Is this an acceptible solution? Title: Re: Hey, stop the BS already! Post by: Assamite on 2004-09-20, 03:10 GOD, YES.
Title: Re: Hey, stop the BS already! Post by: Angst on 2004-09-20, 03:31 so if angst is in a bad mood, he can go slap people round on a different server while trash-talking? sounds good to angst..
Title: Re: Hey, stop the BS already! Post by: OmEgA-X on 2004-09-20, 05:14 wtf? i never got tried to get anyone banned. why am i being targeted. what about everyone that does? thats bullshit that im being targeted. ive seen a lot of our regs talking a lot more trash than i have. i havent even been around that often yet im still being pointed out. what the fsck is up with that? now are we gonna get into hypocrasy?
Title: Re: Hey, stop the BS already! Post by: Assamite on 2004-09-20, 05:25 I don't know... it could be your use of offensive slurs that gets to the admins.
BTW, what did Alarm do? He didn't seem all that bad. PS How did the SA goons hear of this mod recently? Is there an article or a forum post that explains this? Title: Re: Hey, stop the BS already! Post by: OmEgA-X on 2004-09-20, 05:28 offensive slurs? when the hell have i badmouthed an admin? if i did you think i'd still be active? hell no. i 'd be banned. this really angers me.

Post by: OmEgA-X on 2004-09-20, 05:32 im usually quiet when im in the arena. i laugh and thats it. i dont get pissed off like SOME people and leave and bitch about it on irc. phoenix is almost always around when im fragging, and ive only made an ass out of myself once, and apoligies were given and i havent done it.
Title: Re: Hey, stop the BS already! Post by: Makou on 2004-09-20, 05:59 Omega, somebody was accusing you of doing such last night. I'm not going to name names, but you can probably guess who.
As for the topic at hand, yes, I think it's a good idea. Unfortunately, how is it going to be enforced? People usually jump on whatever happens to be the most populated server, and that's still going to be the case, even with this "separation." The groups will still be mixed. Title: Re: Hey, stop the BS already! Post by: OmEgA-X on 2004-09-20, 06:03 i played for 10 minutes last night, then my cousins wanted to play gen. so i let them. i had a lot going on last night and my week has been very stressful. i can tell you right now that i did not talk crap last night when i was playing. im not responsible and i apologize if it was my cousins who were talking trash last night. but when i resumed control and i said 'IM SORRY THAT WAS MY COUSIN PLAYING EXCUSE THE CRAPPY PLAYING'. i thought that was clear enough and phoenix was there to comfirm this because he replied by saying 'ok'.
Title: Re: Hey, stop the BS already! Post by: Assamite on 2004-09-20, 06:21 Why don't we have the owner of the games.log check into these alleged transgressions?
Title: Re: Hey, stop the BS already! Post by: Phoenix on 2004-09-20, 07:19 I was there last night, and Omega's cousin was playing on Omega's comp, so he's telling the truth there. As for Alarm, well, he was under a name I did not recognize and he told me to f* off, among other things, for absolutely no reason. Seeing a stranger get mouthy with a server admin for no reason, I thought "How is this guy going to behave to the other players? We don't need this kind of behavior here" so I banned him. I've lifted the ban, or at least I hope that was the right IP I removed. If not, let me know.
A lot of this finger pointing is going on behind my back. I don't know everything people have said to everyone else. Yes, we all have opinions of each other, myself included, and yes some of us tend to be a bit more mouthy than the rest. So far nobody's come to me and said "Hey, such 'n' such is breaking the rules" except for one specific instance. Since just about everyone involved has had harsh words toward another party I'm not going to side with anyone here. Instead, I'm going to propose something else in addition to the above proposed server changes. Let's all start off with a clean slate. Let's drop the petty BS grudges, finger pointing, and "he said/she said" and try to be civil toward one another from this point on. I don't want to see Gen's player base implode because of petty bickering and arguments. Forgiveness is a noble action. Holding a grudge is childish. Title: Re: Hey, stop the BS already! Post by: OmEgA-X on 2004-09-20, 07:41 agreed. i know ive bad mouthed mechanic out of anger, but ive let that go. its PETTY to hold grudges..i apologize if there was bad mouthing going on while i wasnt on the pc, but all of you know how i am mostly. i talk trash on irc and i mess around...but am i serious about it? no. i dont mean to come off as a penis if thats how people see me, my intentions arent to bad mouth and make the generations experience or IRC experience bad..but i can honestly say that im not the only one that has messed up. i know al ot of ppl that bad mouth ppl a lot in game and in IRC, yet i was the one pointed out. i dont appreciate that and it seemed more of a personal blow than something that should be addressed. but as pho said..let bygones be bygones and instead of flaming, adding to it, talking trash..again i apologize if i came off as an asshole.
Title: Re: Hey, stop the BS already! Post by: Tabun on 2004-09-20, 13:43 There've only been two cases so far where I truly got ticked off by the way people played. The first was pretty much the reason for this whole set of rules, I think:
#1. manticore Just a clear cut case of 'win, no matter what the cost' - and brag about it afterwards. #2. cunnelatio Just a clear cut case of a no-skill 'win, no matter what the cost' and whine, then quit when losing to HPB players. Ever since these rules were tossed up, I've seen people shout and yell whenever someone popped off 1 (ONE) BFG shot, or killed 1 (ONE) chatting player etc etc. That's where it all went nuts, if you ask me. The above cases is what you want to tackle - anything else is just part of the hectic FFA DM thing.. I can't really say if that solution would be any good, just that it'd probably split the small player base up into two tiny halves.. There's just times that I'm really glad we don't have this problem on the euro server, although that may well have something to do with the fact there's so few euro players :] Title: Re: Hey, stop the BS already! Post by: scalliano on 2004-09-20, 14:50 Amen (esp the BFG thing ...)
The only other thing that pissed me off was when I was on the US server a while back and some prat was constantly spamming votes and whinging when they failed. Not too sure about the gamer/lamer server split, though. It might just cause more whinging in the long run. Just on a personal note, I am usually quite tipsy when hitting the US server at 2am on a Sunday morning so any chatfrags I may have scored off anyone are purely unintentional. Plus my ping is shit. Title: Re: Hey, stop the BS already! Post by: Phoenix on 2004-09-20, 17:51 Well, you also have people who will do things like throw up a chat bubble, wait until you run past, then shoot you in the back and whine about being chatfragged later when you don't trust them the second time around. Then you have guys like Manticore who would deliberately run up to every chatting player he could find and blatantly frag them on purpose just to get a cheap kill. It can work both ways. We had one guy who kept trying to chatcamp the invulnerability on H2SO4 a while back. When subsequently fragged for it and told not to do that he always replied "I was changing class!" On the invuln respawn for a full minute? Sure. Change class on something OTHER than the powerup spawn next time, or expect someone to blow you away and don't complain when they do. (he never did actually change classes either)
I wouldn't really classify this as a "gamer/lamer" split on the servers so much as a "Play nice" and "anything goes" setup. Nobody's going to get banned over the occasional accidental chatfrag. Low ceilings can hide the chat bubble, stray rockets and grenades can nail someone out of view, and sometimes people shoot on reflex when rounding corners and notice the chat bubble when it's a hair too late. It happens, no big deal. We've only permanently banned one or two players and that's because they were being complete asses 100% of the time, and there were constant complaints about their behavior from just about every person on the server. Look, we're not "out to get people" here! The bottom line is we want EVERYONE to have fun playing Gen. Some people think we're too strict in enforcing server rules, others think we're too lax, most just want to get their gaming on and move past the bickering and complaining that's been going on behind the scenes lately. The idea is to give everyone a happy home while still keeping cheaters and the absolute worst offenders off the servers completely. I think it's a decent idea, and worth trying. Besides, two Gen games going at once are better than just one! Title: Re: Hey, stop the BS already! Post by: Woodsman on 2004-09-20, 18:29 Wow! people are upset because others have been mouthing off and i had nothing to do with it! i guess im just not as offensive as i used to be... :sob:
Title: Re: Hey, stop the BS already! Post by: Assamite on 2004-09-20, 18:33 Well, are you a compulsive chatfragger/whiner? If not, there's not much to offend.
Title: Re: Hey, stop the BS already! Post by: Gnam on 2004-09-23, 23:19 Well, look on the bright side, atleast Gen has a big enough player base now to have these kinds of issues. Goon or not, it's nice having extra people to kill.
Title: Re: Hey, stop the BS already! Post by: games keeper on 2004-09-26, 13:43 question to pho .
is there a limit of votes you can call during a match ? tab , I would like to show up again , but I have a bussy agenda at the moment , I cant join saturdays , mondays , thursdays and sometimes not even fridays . :( + my vga card is still to crappy to play with . alteast when I die I wanna get awwed by the nice graphics in where I died . Title: Re: Hey, stop the BS already! Post by: Phoenix on 2004-09-27, 00:31 No, I don't think there's a limit. However, if someone is being an annoying callvote spammer I suggest calling a vote to kick him off the server. That'll get his attention.
