Title: Interest Check: Forum D&D game Post by: ConfusedUs on 2005-03-01, 08:25 Anyone remember Lee's abortive IRC D&D game? I do. The flaming owlbears. The anime-inspired characters. The long, drawn-out, over-descriptive, extremely DETAILED descriptions. Ah the memories.
But I digress. For the past month or so, I've been running a Dungeons and Dragons character on SA, using the latest edition, version 3.5. The game is titled "Insert Coin to Continue". It's a game unlike your standard D&D, in the sense that there are no NPCs except enemies, no locations except battlegrounds, and nothing to do except fight. The game is entirely focused on combat. Free-form roleplaying *is* possible on forums, but it takes forever and I find it hard to get into, as a player or as a DM. Insert Coin is set up like the old-school beat 'em ups that were so popular in the late 80s, such as Double Dragon. The players face multiple waves of enemies, followed by a boss. After the boss, they level up, get some treasure, and start again. The other focus of IC is the humor. Each player's post is typically followed by a brief monologue, usually humorous in nature. The enemies tend to be a bit absurd as well. My players on SA are currently facing a small army of explosive kobolds, much like the headless kamikazes from Serious Sam. The kobolds are currently using catapults to hurl themselves at the players. If anyone is interested, I'd like to start up a game here, on WHS. Even if you've never played D&D before, but want to play, let me know. The new rules for the new edition are avaliable free of charge. These core rules are known as the System Reference Document. You can find the SRD right here (http://www.opengamingfoundation.org/srd.html). For those of you who are familiar with the sytem, here's the rules you'll need to know. "Core" refers to the three main D&D sourcebooks: the players handbook, the dungeon master's guide, and the monster manual. Starting level: 1 Starting wealth: standard (see class descriptions) Stats: 32 point buy (see D&D Dungeon Master's Guide v.3.5 page 169). Hit Points: Max at first level, 75% of max thereafter Races avaliable: Any core race Classes avaliable: Any core class For those of you who are NOT familiar with the system, but want to play, post here and I'll help as much as possible. I'll expect everyone who plays to post in a timely manner, to keep things moving along. Title: Re: Interest Check: Forum D&D game Post by: Lordbane2110 on 2005-03-04, 10:41 So Con
will we have the same scope for multi-classing like the original 3rd Edition as my old Fighter / Rogue / Black Guard Combo will be cool in this instance speaking of Black Guard will we be allowing prestige classes, such as the Blackguard or not cause it will really throw a spanner in the works for my usual sneak attack 5x Damage, plus Contagion = Very Weakened Anything (Inc the old Balrog) :D as if Blackguard isn't allowed i may just have to come up with something different which will kill my usual strategy of Weaken then Cripple :( so con i could really do with knowing before we start :thumb: Title: Re: Interest Check: Forum D&D game Post by: ConfusedUs on 2005-03-04, 10:44 Quote Lordbane2110 said: stuff Anything from the core 3.5 books is game, including the blackguard. You just have to meet the requirements for any prestige class you want. All of the game info is above. Everyone be making with the character creation, please. Anyone who wants to play, but doesn't know how to make a character, contact me ASAP and I'll help. so how do you want the information a Standard Txt Document or Microsoft Word Based affair and like Con if anybody needs help with Creating Evil Characters (My Speciality) then I'll Help Oh Con do we need to come with a back story for the characters or will just a stat sheet suffice as if it's a full sheet i already have one ready, as it's just my usual template of Disgraced Dwarfen Priest renounces Helm and begin the path of darkness, being evil and vengeful against the religon he used to serve faithfully which is the whole Fighter / Rogue / Blackguard thing. due to the fact there are a few people who have never played. will we be doing Stone Keep as it's usually a good training campaign especially the room with the rust monster just let me know what's going to happen and i'll sort out what i'll need :smirk: Title: Re: Interest Check: Forum D&D game Post by: ConfusedUs on 2005-03-04, 19:49 HTML or TXT-based for the character sheets
No backstory needed (but you might get a bonus item for a good one). Evil is OK, but you are not allowed to kill your teammates on purpose. If you become disruptive you will be eaten by a grue. There really is no story worth mentioning, you just beat up monsters in humurous ways. Title: Re: Interest Check: Forum D&D game Post by: Lordbane2110 on 2005-03-04, 23:23 No Killing your Teammates
what kind of D&D game would that be Title: Re: Interest Check: Forum D&D game Post by: ConfusedUs on 2005-03-05, 00:27 One in which annoying, angsty "I'm evil so I kill anything that breathes" players are not welcome.
Title: Re: Interest Check: Forum D&D game Post by: Lordbane2110 on 2005-03-16, 15:34 Well i'm not talking random slaughter as that's insane
it's just if were keeping to AD&D then to become a Blackguard i need to murder at least 1 innocent person it's like the assasin prestige class in that respect when i said Killing Team Mates I mean't the above thing as once you hit around lvl 12 - 13 you usually have all the requirements such as Cleave Hide ( 8 ranks) Move Silently (8 Ranks) the only thing you have to do is make sure your an evil alignment so Lawful Evil, Neutral Evil or Chaotic Evil and to murder an innocent then volia you can become a blackguard as long as i don't have to kill a team mate it will still work Title: Re: Interest Check: Forum D&D game Post by: ConfusedUs on 2005-03-16, 18:24 heh, whatever.
If anyone's still interested in this, please be making your characters Title: Re: Interest Check: Forum D&D game Post by: Chilvence on 2005-03-17, 11:19 Heh, I'll give it a go. Its been a long while since I did anything DnD. I don't know anything about what's changed in 3.5 though, will that be a problem?
Title: Re: Interest Check: Forum D&D game Post by: Daedalus on 2005-04-18, 18:28 Casts Harpers Call on the thread.
Whatever happened to this? I'd be interested if your still thinking about running with it Con EDIT: Also, check out OpenRPG.com Its an opensource online pnp-style client. I'd say check out Fantasy Grounds as well, if it didnt cost $20 Title: Re: Interest Check: Forum D&D game Post by: Moshman on 2005-04-21, 19:20 I will try it out, but how do you make a character?
