Title: What happened to pic taking? (Eh?) Post by: Dooper on 2005-03-20, 22:53 Is no one interested in taking pics of games every weekend and putting them in the photo album..
Can I be a pic taker? :)~ Title: Re: What happened to pic taking? Post by: Tabun on 2005-03-21, 00:44 Ofcourse! You can even load up a demo from the demos thread and catch some beautiful screenshots - the only thing that matters is quality here.
Up your resolution to 1280 horizontal or higher, and tweak Generations lo look its absolute best. Mail the screenshots to a teammember, or post a link on the forum, and someone will surely add them. Title: Re: What happened to pic taking? Post by: Phoenix on 2005-03-22, 08:29 Actually, 1024x768 is sufficient for what we've been doing. I would recommend the following settings for quality's sake though:
r_picmip 0 (note: This will severely increase level load times if you're used to r_picmip 1) r_roundimagesdown 0 (note: If you have < 128 megs of graphics memory this may hang you) r_ext_compressed_textures 1 (this will speed up load times and smooth the game out - always recommended) cg_draw2d 0 (free-floating spectator mode) cg_draw2d 1 (first-person follow mode ONLY) cg_dlighttype 1 (additive lighting) cg_dlightlevel 3 (full dynamic lights) cg_dlightflame 1 (dynamic lights on napalm) cg_dlightlightning 2 (dynamic lights on Slipgate lightning) cg_customplasma 1 (discretionary, can leave at 0 if you prefer) Remember also that you can use timescale during demo playback if you want to slow things down to get some really incredible shots. It will take longer, but you can snag some of those "perfect moments" that way! Title: Re: What happened to pic taking? Post by: Dooper on 2005-03-25, 19:30 Alright guys, I'll try to catch every weekend game..
And who should I e-mail the pics too? And phoenix, where do I go to make my Gen settings like that? Title: Re: What happened to pic taking? Post by: Phoenix on 2005-03-26, 05:33 You can either execute them from within the console in Generations Arena one at a time, or create a config file, like "pics.cfg". Add each line like so:
set r_picmip "0" set r_roundimagesdown "0" set r_ext_compressed_textures "1" Load Generations Arena, type /exec pics.cfg, and then do a /vid_restart so that your settings update. If you need to flip values back for normal play, just make a duplicate of the file and name it "normal.cfg" (or whatever) and change the values to whatever you need. Then /exec normal.cfg and a /vid_restart and you'll be set. Title: Re: What happened to pic taking? Post by: CrioKnight on 2005-04-04, 17:04 What would you suggest be the minimum hardware requirements to take decent pictures in Generations? I am running with a 64 mb video card.
Also, will the above settings be all I have to do to get rid of the scoreboard footer and all the extras on the screen? If not, maybe a "photographer" config should be posted. I would love to take pics as well. I am always on there and I can ALWAYS appreciate pics taken. Thanks again guys. :ninja: Title: Re: What happened to pic taking? Post by: Phoenix on 2005-04-04, 18:22 Well, the specs I have are as follows:
Athon XP1800+ 1.5GHz GeForce TI4600 128 As long as you can hit the 1024x768 resolution and "ultra-pretty" graphics settings framerate dip doesn't really affect the screenshots. However, your framerate can affect how easily you can get a good screenshot. Slowing down a demo with a timescale can make taking shots a lot easier no matter what your settings. If you go that route, record the demo at a high framerate at lower graphics settings so you get a clean recording. Title: Re: What happened to pic taking? Post by: scalliano on 2005-04-04, 23:49 One wee question:
How do you slow the demos down? Title: Re: What happened to pic taking? Post by: Tabun on 2005-04-04, 23:54 http://www.planetquake3.net/tweak/interest...ing_quake3.html (http://www.planetquake3.net/tweak/interesting_quake3.html)
