Title: Don't steal computers (I don't feel bad for this guy)
Post by: Makou on 2005-04-24, 10:16
You really never know when you're going to screw yourself over.

Quote
The last few minutes of this video from a biology class at Berkeley is of professor explaining the terrifying consequences that will soon befall the student that stole his laptop.
The original video has since been edited to remove this portion of the lecture, but the cut version and MP3 are still available.

This makes me feel a lot better about the stupid things I've done in my life.

Well I listened to the "good part" of it.  I'd say someone's in some serious trouble, or else that's one hell of a bluff.  :thumb:

It was a bluff ( http://blastradius.blogspot.com/2005/04/fo...xaggerator.html (http://blastradius.blogspot.com/2005/04/follow-up-professor-exaggerator.html) ,) and the theif has yet to come forward.

Could the professor get charged with something for that?

Aye, what the professor probably gambled on was that the kid would not be as computer literate as he was scared.  Problem is, most college kids who actually sit through their classes tend to know their way around a PC.  The kid probably had already scoured the system and found no evidence of anything the professor was making up, and knew it was a hoax from the beginning.  Either that or he no longer had it and didn't care.  You have to admire the professor's gall and creativity though.  Too bad he's still out of a laptop.  Maybe next time he'll be more careful with it.

Heh, I didn't mean to be put a damper on anybody's fun. :p

And don't feel bad scalliano, I've done the same thing on several occasions.  The most recent one being about the inaccurate statement issued about Duke Nukem Forever switching to the DOOM 3 engine.  I told several of my past instructors about that, and they no doubt dispersed it in some kind of cynical joke to their students. :p

2 words for checking systems out. KNOPPIX baby!   <3

Come out of your ivory tower and talk with the peasants. With the doors closed and the same group in the room, the air becomes stale.

If you really want to have a blast, nothing beats plastique and a radio-operated detonator.  Plastique molds nicely, and nothin' says lovin' like blowing the theif to kingdom come.  Just remember where people set laptops to use them, and it makes it even more amusing.  :D

Just don't be usin' electricity for no killin'... else Ben Franklin will run wild on you, since he invented electricity an' all. Be givin' him a bad name by usin' it for such distasteful means.

*Steals your thunderbolt and breaks it over his knee*

You think they'll get rid of chalk/marker boards because of this?  So that teachers don't have to face away from their conniving students for so long and risk this stuff happeneing again?

(didn't read the article   )
