Title: Quakecon Tournament ideas (... Heres what i have so far) Post by: Dicion on 2003-06-15, 15:05 Ok, i'm working out planning a scheduele for the Qcon Genarena tournament coming up, here are my goals for it:
It needs to be very Scalable depending on how many people participate It MUST be Fun I don't want it to be like a normal regular 1on1 tournament, best player wins. Because then noone will want to join it if they see anyways, here's what i have so far. This IS NOT final, i stress that. NOWHERE NEAR final. I drew this up this morning after i had a few cups of coffee and the ideas popped into my head. Entire Tournament Format in PDF (http://dicion.wireheadstudios.net/whs.pdf) (requires Adobe acrobat reader) Tournament Format page 1 (http://dicion.wireheadstudios.net/whs_01.png) <- Must Read Tournament Format page 2 (http://dicion.wireheadstudios.net/whs_02.png) <- Must Read Tournament Format page 3 (http://dicion.wireheadstudios.net/whs_03.png) <- Fill In sheets, not necessary reading Tournament Format page 4 (http://dicion.wireheadstudios.net/whs_04.png) <- Fill In sheets, not necessary reading Tournament Format page 5 (http://dicion.wireheadstudios.net/whs_05.png) <- Fill In sheets, not necessary reading Tournament Format page 6 (http://dicion.wireheadstudios.net/whs_06.png) <- Fill In sheets, not necessary reading Tournament Format page 7 (http://dicion.wireheadstudios.net/whs_07.png) <- Fill In sheets, not necessary reading Tournament Format page 8 (http://dicion.wireheadstudios.net/whs_08.png) <- Fill In sheets, not necessary reading Tournament Format page 9 (http://dicion.wireheadstudios.net/whs_09.png) <- Fill In sheets, not necessary reading Tournament Format page 10 (http://dicion.wireheadstudios.net/whs_10.png) <- Fill In sheets, not necessary reading Tournament Format page 11 (http://dicion.wireheadstudios.net/whs_11.png) <- Fill In sheets, not necessary reading Tournament Format page 12 (http://dicion.wireheadstudios.net/whs_12.png) <- Must Read The above links will be updated as I, well update the sheet :) Please, post all gripes, complaints, etc here. I want this to be a Community-based tournament. Open to all, and all will want to compete. Even if you are NOT going to qcon, pretend that you are, and then say what you would like to see changed/added Thanks Title: Re: Quakecon Tournament ideas Post by: Lilazzkicker on 2003-06-15, 16:32 Round 3, will the 1vs1 be random class, or you pick what you want?
Title: Re: Quakecon Tournament ideas Post by: Dicion on 2003-06-15, 16:36 unless it says 'random class' they are choosable..
dont know why i put 'non-random class' in the second one.. * Dicion removes it Title: Re: Quakecon Tournament ideas Post by: Phoenix on 2003-06-15, 18:21 *scratches head*
The chart looks awfully confusing to me, but I don't follow sports so I'm not used to this kind of ranking system. I do see where we've got FFA, CTF, and Tourney mixed in. I think that's a better way to mix up a skill set than just 1 vs 1 all the way up. There are some players who do nothing BUT 1 vs 1, I think it would be great to shake them up a bit by involving other gameplay modes like this. I'll be doing my best to get 99c finished and ready before QuakeCon so that we'll have that version for play. Tournement mode and random class for 99b both have several bugs which were fixed during the 99c conversion that could prove a headache during the matches. Title: Re: Quakecon Tournament ideas Post by: games keeper on 2003-06-15, 19:13 we can also invite some complete quake 1 , 2 and 3 clans to play generations arena agianst eachother . (for the honor )
this could be done in 3 ways . 1) totally free every clan can choose what class he is . 2)5 vs 5. every clanmember is another class 3)evereone the same class. like strogg vs earth. imho 1 seems best for just having a bit of fun . 2 would be great if you wanna see some more strategic moves in generations arena. 3 would be cool for those q1 , q2 and q3 clans to lmake the final fight of what game is best . (problem with this 1 is that people will maybe start saying its unbalanced (because 1 class is dominating a certain map )) Title: Re: Quakecon Tournament ideas Post by: Dicion on 2003-06-15, 19:29 Ok.. update:
The CTF portion has been Nixed. there was no way to make it fair for all parties involved... I'm working on a replacement for round 2 right now.. In anycase, Round 2 will reduce it from 32 people, to 16... I'll post an updated Format shortly... Gameskeeper.... that makes no sense.... Next Issue though: We're gonna need to choose maps for the tourney 5 Maps for round 1 3 maps for round 2 4 maps for round 3 and round 4 chooses it's own maps Title: Re: Quakecon Tournament ideas Post by: games keeper on 2003-06-15, 21:34 what do you mean makes no sence ????
Title: Re: Quakecon Tournament ideas Post by: Tekhead on 2003-06-16, 05:51 imho, players should be random during the ffa portion of the tourney and they can freely choose their class for the finals. Other than that, it looks fine to me.
Title: Re: Quakecon Tournament ideas Post by: Dicion on 2003-06-16, 18:04 OK! First post in this forum has been updated to my *HOPEFULLY* Final version of the format... look it over, let me know what you think.
