You know those little hazardous material signs they put on transport trucks?  Here's a good reason to pay attention to those.

Why in the heck, whould explosives be transported on a civilian highway? They should transport it by other means.

I'm with Washu on this one. That's just ASKING for trouble.

They and other hadardous materials have been transported this way for years upon years. How else are they going to transport them? By train? In the air? Secret underground tunnels? Please.

Safe driving, proper training, and working equipment should really be all that's necessary to prevent an accident like this from occuring. The article states that the driver lost control after taking a turn too quickly -- "driver error" caused an accident that easily could have never happened.

Sadly, this is just one reason we have HAZMAT teams...

None of those things would of helped, no driver is perfect and they do make misteaks reguardless of the amount of brute training they have under gone through. Train would be better. You can transport more so you dont have to send it out as often. That means less time bombs to worry about.

Trains are involved in wrecks all the time here in the US. ALL THE TIME

Not to mention the fact that trains typically carry MORE cargo, and tend to pass through densely populated areas at times like, oh, downtowns of cities, etc.  They already carry stuff like that on train as well.  There are a lot of chemical tankers, fuel haulers, etc.  Ever see what happens when a train full of fuel oil wrecks and catches fire - and then explodes?  It's not pretty.

All I can think of when I read that news story is this:-

"I can now be glad someone else has made a crater bigger than I"
