Title: Building the best (Computer Hardware question)
Post by: Goldensly on 2006-06-01, 21:09
Hey all
I need to make a new computer to handle all my design and gaming needs.  Since my funds are going to be high for this I thought I would look to others for hardware suggestions.

The needs are for
  Gaming
  3d modeling
  Animation
  Rendering
  Audio

About the only things I have covered so far are the monitor ( still will take suggestions)
and my keyboard mouse set (Logitech diNovo Media Desktop)  I'll be looking forward to what you all suggest :).

Ps> For the motherboard I want to go dual processors and for the video cards SLI unless theres a single card out there that is better than just buying to video cards.

Dual processor as in multiple CPU sockets, or dual core single CPU socket?

as in multiple sockets with dual core processors :) ^_^

You're probably going to want to end up with a multi-socket Opteron system then.  I guess that means I'll have to dig through some reviews on multi-socket server-grade system boards then.

when it comes to multisocket motherboards the only way that you can make use of the all the processing power is if the program is coded for it right?

heh, well its going to be an education expense.  I got accepted to the Academy of Art in San Francisco for their Game Design Program.  I'm adding this to my budget for my student loan since both my laptop and desktop don't make easy of the rendering that I'll have to do for my classes.  They have Game Design tied into Animation so instead of getting stuck doing long renders I'm going to get a computer that can shorten my wait time while giving me a kick ass gaming computer :D

I replied to your PM.  No gripes I can see with the above list, though I know you changed the video card choice, which I agree with.

new update, since I've had to call in so many times about my laptop to dell the gave me a complete replacement.... which happens to be a Dell XPS 1710 with Nvidia Go 7900GTX, 2.16 Ghz Intel Centrino Duo, 2 gigs of ram, Sound Blaster Audigy, and a 17 inch WUXGA display with Truelife.  I think I'm going to be good for now hehe.  But I did get the ASUS A8N32 SLI Deluxe mobo so I'm going to go cheap on everything else just so I can use my desktop for at least a storage computer again for now.  I'll probably upgrade when it comes to needing more power later on.
