Post by: Phoenix on 2008-02-06, 17:12 I just read a rather scathing review (http://enthusiast.hardocp.com/article.html?art=MTQ2MCwxLCxoZW50aHVzaWFzdA==) over at HardOCP (http://www.hardocp.com) regarding a power supply. If anyone's been considering purchasing an Ultra X2 750watt PSU, you will want to read this. If you already have one, I seriously recommend replacing it immediately.

The other major sites like AT are usually not as thorough and detailed, but that's to be expected when comparing a broad spectrum hardware site to a specialist site. Still, it's a good review from H. Post by: Vorlonesque on 2008-02-06, 22:28 I generally have decided to stick with PC Power and Cooling myself...they're very robust even though they cost 1.5-2x as much (my 510W is doing very nicely with all the stuff I have in it...though I wouldn't mind to get a 750W from them to get the newer ATX12 or whatever adapter (the bigger newer one that my Abit IP35 Pro recommends)).

Post by: Phoenix on 2008-02-07, 07:13 I'm just happy that HardOCP started testing power supplies in this manner since nobody else had been, and I like the fact that if it sucks, they'll outright say so and why. The power supply is THE most important part of a computer and too often is overlooked as an important component (beyond the wattage sticker). Too many computer manufacturers throw in just whatever they get at a cheap cost. It's no good having a top of the line motherboard, CPU, video, etc, and then have a crap PSU, but how do you know if that PSU is good or crap? Look at the sticker? Read the box info? I don't think anyone would deliberately put an engine from a Yugo into a Ferrari or a Hummer, but you know the dealers would if they could get away with it. I've seen bad power supplies take out computer mainboards and hard drives when they fail, so the more torture testing they do the better. :doom_thumb:
