Picking a favorite weapon for each Generation is actually a bit more difficult than I thought it would be. They each have at least 3 that I like using quite a bit.

Now come on... as a doomer who doesn't like punching someone else into an exploding pile of red gross?

12 Gauge appears to be quite the underrated piece of firepower.

It's definitely underrated, especially in the Doom community.  In Doom 1, where there's no SSG, you have the shotgun and chaingun as your standard weapons, and the rocket launcher and plasma rifle (ep 2 and 3 only) as your heavy guns.  That shotgun is responsible for a lot of frags in the old Doom, whereas in Doom 2, the SSG became pretty much "the" gun everyone used because it produced one-shot kills.

I generally use the normal shotty over the 12-Guage because its just too hard for me to get a clean close-up shot with it, and I just end up wasting a ton of ammo.

The 12-gauge is more for medium range shooting where the SSG's spread isn't as useful.  Close in the SSG is a better choice provided you don't miss.  :doomed:
