Title: Quake Arena Arcade Weapons Post by: Matsilagi on 2014-10-23, 04:47 Hi.
So i have found that Q3 for PC had High quality textures (http://ioquake3.org/2010/08/24/high-resolution-creative-commons-texture-replacement-pack/) for maps. So i got my hands on the XBox files and ported all of its guns (Aside from BFG's textures, i couldnt find them) for PC. It looks amazing and fits all the textures. Here's some screenshots: http://imgur.com/WKVe1Td,FJG2dKB,NbqkD40,UbSBUDn,FwnSNW5,AWsQFO7 (http://imgur.com/WKVe1Td,FJG2dKB,NbqkD40,UbSBUDn,FwnSNW5,AWsQFO7) Incase its not allowed here, i will remove it. I may also port the XBox Janet playermodel (Files are without names, so its hard to find a model+its textures and .shader files) Here's the download for the file: https://mega.co.nz/#!VRcnwSoZ!NU5nr-FStVKmHqF-F1QhcyIhM6pOEJqDOZtbG6YJeJM (https://mega.co.nz/#!VRcnwSoZ!NU5nr-FStVKmHqF-F1QhcyIhM6pOEJqDOZtbG6YJeJM) My other files includes a Quake Live playermodels pack, however, i need authorization of the admins to post it here i guess Title: Re: Quake Arena Arcade Weapons Post by: ~Va^^pyrA~ on 2014-10-23, 05:51 It is a pretty noticeable upgrade!
I've been using the weapons from the Metal Tech (http://www.moddb.com/mods/metal-tech-v20-revolutions) texture pack, but they're kind of hit and miss. The railgun coloring is especially disappointing. Do the Quake Live player models really differ all that much? All I can recall is some gore being removed from the skins themselves. Well, there's removed gore + sport and bright skins. Oh, and also taunt sounds for Crash. And a James and Janet model with a FFA Skin. Title: Re: Quake Arena Arcade Weapons Post by: Phoenix on 2014-10-23, 17:49 There's nothing wrong with posting screenshots. I can't comment on the file you linked to as I can download it for some reason. It keeps complaining that I need to update my browser. :doom_?:
The Quake Live player skins... distributing those for Q3A may violate the EULA for Quake Live as they would probably be considered a "derivative work", which is prohibited in section 2 of the EULA. It's best not to post a link to those. Title: Re: Quake Arena Arcade Weapons Post by: Matsilagi on 2014-10-23, 18:04 There's nothing wrong with posting screenshots. So i tought it would be better to just paste the imgur link to the album. The most notable differences are on the Grenade Launcher, PlasmaGun, Machinegun and Railgun, since they have new models. The others are just texture improvements. Not gonna post QL links there. (Unless ofcourse, other "contact methods" are used :ninja: ) Title: Re: Quake Arena Arcade Weapons Post by: Phoenix on 2014-10-23, 22:08 Holy crap those look so much better! Doesn't Quake Arena Arcade also have the Team Arena chaingun, nailgun, and prox launcher? Are they identical to those in Team Arena or did they get the "high-def" treatment too?

Title: Re: Quake Arena Arcade Weapons Post by: Phoenix on 2014-10-23, 23:55 Fantastic!
I think that, since these are just high resolution versions of the existing Q3A models and skins and that are already being used in Q3A, that it may be technically legal to use these, as opposed to the Quake Live player skins which are new and differ significantly from the originals. I'll have to check with our team's legal expert on that, but even if we can't include them in Generations they certainly add some much needed detail to normal Q3A! :doom_thumb: Title: Re: Quake Arena Arcade Weapons Post by: Matsilagi on 2014-10-24, 00:07 Fantastic! Such a pity its in closed beta test. Also, after the release, i may need some help because i want to port the old models to the new Gen (They are currently working in Garry's Mod, but they use skeletal anims). Title: Re: Quake Arena Arcade Weapons Post by: Phoenix on 2014-10-24, 00:26 I'm not sure which "old models" you're referring to.
As for how Gen currently looks, there's some teaser vids on Youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lemzKrumqhs http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bP5loqC6q3s (ignore the spelling errors) Plus, we have two videos of some Doom Warrior weapon tests for Team Arena: http://www.wireheadstudios.org/phoenix/video/gen_ta_testvid_01.zip http://www.wireheadstudios.org/phoenix/video/gen_ta_testvid_02.zip Lastly, a screenshot gallery which includes the Prox Mine replacement for Doom: http://www.wireheadstudios.org/gallery/TeaserShots2 Title: Re: Quake Arena Arcade Weapons Post by: Matsilagi on 2014-10-24, 00:42 I'm not sure which "old models" you're referring to. Well, looks nice, i have been tracking progress from distance, but those Doom screenshots and TA vids are new Also, updated file here: http://www.mediafire.com/download/r1gz3pe2sl0dc2c/q3_xboxhdweaponsv2.pk3 Includes both TA and Q3 weapons + the XBox weapon and ammoicons for them Title: Re: Quake Arena Arcade Weapons Post by: Phoenix on 2014-10-29, 22:17 Looks pretty good. The only thing I notice is that Team Arena is not wanting to load the new textures, so something's being overridden. I'll have to look into the .pk3 structure to see what differs.
Putting these up against the Gen weapons, the Q3 weapons don't look so dated now as far as graphic quality. Nifty stuff, and the icons look a lot crisper as well. It does make me wonder why Id never included these in a general update for Q3. Title: Re: Quake Arena Arcade Weapons Post by: Matsilagi on 2014-11-01, 03:21 Looks pretty good. It does make me wonder why Id never included these in a general update for Q3. Its to keep those "Xbox exclusive". Didnt work well, atleast, not with me there. If your boss give you a green light, feel free to include those on Gen, but i woul like to recieve something like a fancy credit or a nice betatest or something :slippy_love: Title: Re: Quake Arena Arcade Weapons Post by: Phoenix on 2014-11-01, 17:09 I just spoke with him, and it seems like it should be OK. I'll have to repack things and fix that odd issue with TA overriding the Q3A versions of the textures.
If you'd like to help test the Beta, shoot me a private message and I'll let you know what's needed. :doom_thumb: Title: Re: Quake Arena Arcade Weapons Post by: Matsilagi on 2014-11-01, 18:19 I just spoke with him, and it seems like it should be OK. Also, incase you didnt recieve it, let me know, i dont see it on my Outbox Title: Re: Quake Arena Arcade Weapons Post by: ~Va^^pyrA~ on 2014-11-01, 19:29 Message sent, im pretty sure i already know some of the requirements. Now seriously, i may make a addon or two for it, that is, when i get my message. Title: Re: Quake Arena Arcade Weapons Post by: scalliano on 2014-11-26, 00:09 Good work, Matsilagi! I actually did port over the QL-exclusives models and skins myself for personal use a while ago. Getting the shaders to function correctly was a pain in the arse, but I got there in the end. I'll refrain from posting the .pk3 for reasons already stated.
Where do the QAA Pi and Fritzkrieg team colour skins sit in terms of legality? Title: Re: Quake Arena Arcade Weapons Post by: Phoenix on 2014-11-26, 01:28 I haven't seen them, but if they're just higher resolution versions of the ones from Team Arena then I'd say the same as the weapon skins since they're functionally identical in that case.
