Title: Hello everyone
Post by: FistMarine on 2023-09-01, 14:30
Hello everyone! I am back after all these years. Thanks to Phoenix for approving my account. I have tried registering again in past 1-2 years or so (even tried using two different usernames) but for some reason my account wasn't approved back then. :?:
Anyway, I feel sorry for my behavior in the early to mid 2010s, because I was a stupid teen/young adult and kept Phoenix busy with many questions unrelated to Generations Arena when sending PMs. Then I left the forum twice for various reasons but now I came back and I will not leave again. I will try to participate in some topics and be a somewhat active member.
I will continue following the progress of Generations Arena because this was my main reason why I registered the forums initially back in 2010 and I am glad to see the mod is still alive and getting a lot of cool status updates.
Cheers! :doom_thumb:

Fistmarine had requested for me to ban his account, so I did ask requested at the time. Hopefully the drama can remain in the past...?

Thanks for the responses. Here is what happened in the past for those interested in the whole story: I registered on the forums first time in late 2010, a couple months after I have found about the existence of Generations Arena, though there is a chance I may have seen an YouTube video of the mod in 2007-2008 or so but it wasn't until 2010 when I downloaded it and started playing.
It quickly became one of my favorite Quake 3 mods, especially for someone who grew up with classic 90s FPS games, this mod is truly amazing. I remember only being disappointed with missing weapon animations compared to that YouTube video that showed a newer version of the mod in development.
Anyway, in the first PM I sent to Phoenix, I asked about becoming a beta tester, which was the main reason why I signed up on the forums at that time but I have been informed there were already enough beta testers, though years later I was informed that there is a chance I may become a beta tester when Gen 1.0 release is nearing.
Then as the time goes on and the PMs discussion shifts from Generations to other stuff, in early 2011 or so, I asked Phoenix about making a Shrink Ray mod for Quake 3, inspired by mods like Superheroes Arena and Wyrm, both of which contain a fully functional Shrink Ray weapon.
After a while, he accepted and the mod was created from scratch. I enjoyed my time with the mod, even with all its bugs that I reported over time. Everything was going fine until sometime in 2012 when I requested to add more features to the mod, some of which having nothing to do with the mod itself. Suddenly, Phoenix lost the patience with me and ceased development of the mod. The mod wasn't released to the public to my knowledge but it was still available on the website if you accessed the link (I no longer have the link, unfortunately) and I heard the mod's code was donated to the author of EntityPlus mod.
After some random PMs and talking about a ZDoom mod I had made at that time, I suddenly decided to cancel/remove my mod because it wasn't popular and it was just another one of those Realm667 randomizer mods that you often found released at the ZDoom forums. Then I got suddenly banned from the forums for first time in summer 2012, for my long insistent PMs that I sent to Phoenix around that time, either about life-related stuff or other video games related stuff that he wasn't interested hearing about.
I did not receive a prior warning to that ban happening and it wasn't a requested ban, instead it was an unexpected ban. However, a month later I got unbanned and stayed in the forums for a while before I requested to delete my account, seeing as I did not contribute to the forums with anything useful and I decided it's better if I leave, so Phoenix can continue development of Generations Arena in peace.
After reminding of the forum, I returned in 2014 and stayed for another year or so. Then, at some point, I requested to delete the account again. I don't remember if drama happened again or was probably the result of having some very important exams at that time that I needed to leave the forum to not distract me from studying. Most likely the latter, though I don't know why I kept requesting to have my account deleted, only to come back later anyway. I've done the same thing on at least two other forums in the past decade or so.
I don't remember registering again on the forums since then but I remember talking with Phoenix in summer 2016 or so through Email in regards to the Quake 3 Source Code and how to compile/modify it. I got responses and the instructions are available on a topic on these forums, for those interested. I learned how to modify some things in the code and compile the Quake 3 source code at that time, even if I don't understand programming and just tried to modify that Shrink Ray mod by myself but in the end I gave up.
Since then, I don't remember talking to Phoenix again. After those years seeing all the cool status updates with Team Arena support, I may have sent an email to Phoenix in 2018 and/or 2020 thinking about coming back to the forums and suggesting once more to become a beta tester to Generations Arena but I haven't received any response, so at that time I kept wondering if Phoenix was mad at me for my past behavior, which meant that I will never have the chance to redeem myself and might also explain why my account wasn't approved in 2021 or so when I tried to register again.
Recently, I came across the website again when searching for Quake related stuff and decided to register again. Well, here I am now. That's all I remember and according to some posts I've read recently in the Off-Topic section. Speaking of which, you can read pages 45-47 in the Off-Topic thread about the old drama if you are interested. I'm ashamed that the first time I left the forums was because I got angry on no one noticing it was my birthday.
I used to get angry over lots of small things back then, though I do admit I was rather young and had crappy days in the high school around that time and that's why I was quite dramatic and got me banned from at least two other forums, where I similarly reacted. It's best to leave the drama in the past, as everyone has matured. Anyway, these days I don't have the free time I used to have in the past and besides an occasional post once in a while, I will most likely just check for Generations Arena status updates when I visit these forums from time to time. It always brings me a smile to the face that Generations Arena is still being worked on after all these years and the 1.0 release will finally happen one day, then we will be blown away. :slippy_thumb: Thanks for reading and for understanding. ^_^ EDIT: Hopefully the message didn't turn out too long and the story isn't too boring/long to read. I added some extra information to the story but I hope the people enjoy my story nonetheless. :)
