This had me laughing out loud several times. Great stuff.

I found it rather interesting. Most likely, they based the Doom guy off of most players: Mindlessly killing demons and trying to find the big gun. :P

I read Fargo's review of this.  I was thinking "could it really be that bad?"  Alas, indeed it is.  Story may not matter much to an action game, but a comic book ABOUT an action game needs some semblence of a story.  I can understand the Doomguy being completely nuts after fighting through Doom II, but I cannot see the "savior of the known universe" babbling to himself like a 13 year old on speed with a sugar high to boot managing to survive where entire platoons of battle-hardened combat troops bit the dust.  The Doomguy deserves better!  What a waste of time and ink!

when i was a lad of 15 i myself drew a short doom comic and it was much better than this.

I always imagined the Doomguy just like he was on screen - a silent killing machine, just grunting with the pain and shrugging it off.
That was one of the annoying things about Serious Sam (yeah, I know I'm the only one who didn't like it).

I didn't even bother reading the whole thing because of how damn bad it was.  (The website also had an extremely annoying flash advertisement.  :P)  I normally laugh at things that are horribly bad, but this crosses the line between utter crap and mind-numbing, happiness-killing, suicide-inducing, bane-of-humanity, utter crap.  As you can probably surmise from the number of adjectives I used, the line between the former and the latter is a very thick line to cross.

Added:  This is merely a non-serious suggestion addressed to Con:  For kicks why don't you move this thread to CC and make it a sticky? :evil:

Mentioning that comic should be illegal. It makes the Doom novels look like a work of genius.

I'm almost certain they were trying to make Doom guy as much like Ashley Williams as possible.  If you don't know who Ash is, for god's sakes watch Army of Darkness.

The part where the Doom guy has the double barrelled shotgun, and fires a crapload of times, and then proceeds to say "Groovy" quickly set off an Army of Darkness Ripoff Alarm in my head.

Poor Flynn Taggart...he never needed this!

Ash is VERY cool indeed, whereas the main character of this comic is .. a pathetic moron. The latter has no character whatsoever, while Bruce gives the former layer after layer of character-depth by merely using his insane ability to make faces ;]

The groovy is probably ripped straight out of AoD though, but defacing the Evil Dead trilogy would be a greater travesty than assaulting Doom. Not by far, mind you :]

Yeah, I caught onto that too Tab.  They even tried to make his face look like Ash, not like the game character.  :unsure:

Please do not use names from the Doom novels. They're almost as bad as the books and Flynn Taggart sounds retarded anyway.

Maybe if we don't talk about these pieces of shit, they will just go away.

Save yourself the time and just buy it right off the bat, then worry about watching it later. The Boomstick Edition is a must have  :thumb:

Of course, the prequels are good as well, though do not share the same tone, as the first is horror and the second is more slapstick.

Evil Dead II was the best of the series, imo. The scene where contents of the cottage start laughing like maniacs is wonderful - as well as the mirror scene. AoD was a bit flat in the good jokes department too, just blunt. Works just as well I guess, but not as much fun for me :]

The books never existed. Do not talk about the books. Nobody acknowledges the existence of the books. Thanks you.  :P

I didn't mind the name, really.  The novels WERE crappy, though.

The first book was good. Not great, but good for a video game book, which are usually crap anyway.

The second book was decent.

The third was crap.

The fourth should have been burnt, and the authors shot.

On a related note, I DID however like the Invasion series of Star Trek novels.  Basically it's all four Star Trek generations encountering the same alien threat - which happens to be demons intent on invading the Alpha quadrant - but at different times and places.  There were four different books, and if you put all the covers together it formed one big demon-face picture.  The last novel was written by one of the cowriters of the Doom novels and it's a very good story.

It's DooM, it was based on the game. It made me realise that I'd rather play the game than read about it.

Jeez, this thing makes the Captain N cartoon series from years ago seem like a good idea. No wonder the movie never came to light.
