Title: The Doom Comic (oldie, and not so goodie) Post by: ConfusedUs on 2003-12-16, 13:33 This is a nice idea, but it's the single cheesiest comic I've ever read. Makes the 1960s batman TV show look serious
http://www.doomworld.com/10years/doomcomic/comic.php (http://www.doomworld.com/10years/doomcomic/comic.php) I laughed. Title: Re: The Doom Comic Post by: dna on 2003-12-16, 16:34 I've never seen that before.
Man, that sux. Title: Re: The Doom Comic Post by: Lilazzkicker on 2003-12-16, 18:05 Very not so goodie.
Title: Re: The Doom Comic Post by: l4mby on 2003-12-16, 18:11 All of that ... for _that_ ? Where's the end ? I want that 10 minutes of my life back !
Title: Re: The Doom Comic Post by: Angst on 2003-12-16, 18:42 ahh, the sugar-sweet kiss of heavy ordnance
Title: Re: The Doom Comic Post by: Tabun on 2003-12-16, 23:32 I absolutely love it - or rather, the fargo-style review of it, that was once on PQ.
http://www.planetquake.com/features/articl...omcomic_a.shtml (http://www.planetquake.com/features/articles/doomcomic_a.shtml) This had me laughing out loud several times. Great stuff. Title: Re: The Doom Comic Post by: Footman on 2003-12-17, 00:51 I found it rather interesting. Most likely, they based the Doom guy off of most players: Mindlessly killing demons and trying to find the big gun. :P
Title: Re: The Doom Comic Post by: Phoenix on 2003-12-17, 04:15 I read Fargo's review of this. I was thinking "could it really be that bad?" Alas, indeed it is. Story may not matter much to an action game, but a comic book ABOUT an action game needs some semblence of a story. I can understand the Doomguy being completely nuts after fighting through Doom II, but I cannot see the "savior of the known universe" babbling to himself like a 13 year old on speed with a sugar high to boot managing to survive where entire platoons of battle-hardened combat troops bit the dust. The Doomguy deserves better! What a waste of time and ink!
Title: Re: The Doom Comic Post by: Woodsman on 2003-12-17, 07:30 when i was a lad of 15 i myself drew a short doom comic and it was much better than this.
Title: Re: The Doom Comic Post by: dna on 2003-12-17, 16:14 I always imagined the Doomguy just like he was on screen - a silent killing machine, just grunting with the pain and shrugging it off.
That was one of the annoying things about Serious Sam (yeah, I know I'm the only one who didn't like it). Title: Re: The Doom Comic Post by: McDeth on 2003-12-18, 07:10 I thought it was sporking hilarious honestly...
Title: Re: The Doom Comic Post by: Kain-Xavier on 2003-12-18, 07:34 To quote Lowtax, "I have never wanted a mental enema more than right now."
I didn't even bother reading the whole thing because of how damn bad it was. (The website also had an extremely annoying flash advertisement. :P) I normally laugh at things that are horribly bad, but this crosses the line between utter crap and mind-numbing, happiness-killing, suicide-inducing, bane-of-humanity, utter crap. As you can probably surmise from the number of adjectives I used, the line between the former and the latter is a very thick line to cross. Added: This is merely a non-serious suggestion addressed to Con: For kicks why don't you move this thread to CC and make it a sticky? Title: Re: The Doom Comic Post by: Thomas Mink on 2003-12-18, 16:01 Ok... I feel as though I've wasted the last 10 minutes or so of my life.
I guess it wasn't a TOTAL loss though... since I do agree with the psychoctic doom marine's comment about the (doube barreled) shotgun. :) Title: Re: The Doom Comic Post by: dna on 2003-12-18, 16:45 He should have been licking the SS as he said that.

It makes the Doom novels look like a work of genius.http://www.doomworld.com/10years/doomcomic/comic.php (http://www.doomworld.com/10years/doomcomic/comic.php) I laughed. Title: Re: The Doom Comic Post by: Parapsyche on 2003-12-20, 01:26 I'm almost certain they were trying to make Doom guy as much like Ashley Williams as possible. If you don't know who Ash is, for god's sakes watch Army of Darkness.
The part where the Doom guy has the double barrelled shotgun, and fires a crapload of times, and then proceeds to say "Groovy" quickly set off an Army of Darkness Ripoff Alarm in my head. Poor Flynn Taggart...he never needed this! Title: Re: The Doom Comic Post by: Tabun on 2003-12-20, 02:14 They failed, if that was their plan.
Ash is VERY cool indeed, whereas the main character of this comic is .. a pathetic moron. The latter has no character whatsoever, while Bruce gives the former layer after layer of character-depth by merely using his insane ability to make faces ;] The groovy is probably ripped straight out of AoD though, but defacing the Evil Dead trilogy would be a greater travesty than assaulting Doom. Not by far, mind you :] Title: Re: The Doom Comic Post by: Phoenix on 2003-12-20, 03:24 Yeah, I caught onto that too Tab. They even tried to make his face look like Ash, not like the game character.
Title: Re: The Doom Comic Post by: dna on 2003-12-20, 04:11 One of these days, I'll have to watch that.

They're almost as bad as the books and Flynn Taggart sounds retarded anyway.Maybe if we don't talk about these pieces of shit, they will just go away. Title: Re: The Doom Comic Post by: dev/null on 2003-12-21, 07:07 Quote from: dna One of these days, I'll have to watch that. Save yourself the time and just buy it right off the bat, then worry about watching it later. The Boomstick Edition is a must have :thumb: Of course, the prequels are good as well, though do not share the same tone, as the first is horror and the second is more slapstick. The scene where contents of the cottage start laughing like maniacs is wonderful - as well as the mirror scene. AoD was a bit flat in the good jokes department too, just blunt. Works just as well I guess, but not as much fun for me :]

Thanks you. :PMaybe if we don't talk about these pieces of shit, they will just go away. Title: Re: The Doom Comic Post by: Parapsyche on 2003-12-22, 21:29 I didn't mind the name, really. The novels WERE crappy, though.
Besides: "Flynn "Doom" Taggart - the hero of the Wars that bear his name, and leader of the generation with his moniker. He travelled through both moons of Mars, the Hell Dimension, and on war-torn Earth. He destroyed virtually the entire invasion, but at the cost of much of Earth's humanity... as well as his own." The guys at Wirehead don't seem to mind using his name :P Title: Re: The Doom Comic Post by: games keeper on 2003-12-23, 10:04 he travelled over jupiter 2 in TNT
Title: Re: The Doom Comic Post by: dna on 2003-12-23, 14:26 I seem to recall Lee being a fan of the books.
Title: Re: The Doom Comic Post by: Phoenix on 2003-12-23, 18:22 I've read all four of them. Got a problem with that?
Title: Re: The Doom Comic Post by: ConfusedUs on 2003-12-23, 19:33 The first book was good. Not great, but good for a video game book, which are usually crap anyway.
The second book was decent. The third was crap. The fourth should have been burnt, and the authors shot. See a trend here? ;) Title: Re: The Doom Comic Post by: games keeper on 2003-12-23, 20:00 /me wonders what should happen with the 5th book
Title: Re: The Doom Comic Post by: Phoenix on 2003-12-26, 07:44 Yes, I don't know how they went off on such a tangent there... Freds and Newbies? :omfg:
On a related note, I DID however like the Invasion series of Star Trek novels. Basically it's all four Star Trek generations encountering the same alien threat - which happens to be demons intent on invading the Alpha quadrant - but at different times and places. There were four different books, and if you put all the covers together it formed one big demon-face picture. The last novel was written by one of the cowriters of the Doom novels and it's a very good story. Title: Re: The Doom Comic Post by: crazy.joe on 2004-01-05, 21:52 It's DooM, it was based on the game. It made me realise that I'd rather play the game than read about it.
Title: Re: The Doom Comic Post by: scalliano on 2004-01-09, 19:44 Jeez, this thing makes the Captain N cartoon series from years ago seem like a good idea. No wonder the movie never came to light.
Title: Re: The Doom Comic Post by: Woolie Wool on 2004-01-09, 19:51 *waves pocketwatch back and forth*
There are no Doom comics...They are all a lie...You are getting sleepy...very sleepy... |
