Invasion of privacy comes to mind...

Quote
Amendment IV
The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.

Also, if government-issue hardware was forced to be the standatd in all machines in the US, there'd be no hardware companies left unscathed - having to ditch all of their current products in order to be legal. The government would be acting not just as a policing force, but also as a monopoly in that respect. I think even Microsoft would say (in a private meeting, of course) "well f  this, we're out'a here!"

There's no way that this could pass. I mean, who are we as a country? A huge pseudo-government megacorporation that will cripple an entire nation just for our own economic gain? Oh wait...

This bill has to be fake. There's no other rational explination for it. Pardon me for generalizing, but The People didn't vote in congressmen just to let them open the doors to their homes' for the government to regulate.

Heck, I don't think even the government would want such a largely boring job.

I really can't believe this bill could ever exist, much less pass.

Most bills that are drafted do not get passed though, especially in the US

You're right. This is so wrong and unconstitutional, it'll never pass.

However, it's still unnerving that it exists.

Yes it is unnerving at that.

It's the same mentality you get from the anti-gun crowd:  "If we can't stop a few crooks let's penalize everyone."  I noticed Feinstein on the bill.  She's a Big Government, anti-gun, anti-freedom type.  Same one I think that signed onto CALEA a few years back if I remember, or was that Boxer?  Same mold either way.

I doubt it will pass.  Mandating such sweeping regulation would kill the tech industry and, unlike firearms, computer equipment happens to be one of those "vital to the ecomony" type of things.  The tech manufacturers will shoot this one down once they tell the government that if it passes they'll bail to overseas markets and the US can basically bend over and kiss it's bits goodbye.  It seems to me that the record industry and the RIAA are the ones behind this.  Anyone know of anyone else who's been sue-happy over copyright theft of late?  When are these idiots going to learn that making life difficult for people who've done nothing wrong is NOT the way to fix the problem?

While thinking about this bill, I imagined every single company in America that has a computer of any kind, all unamiously saying aloud "FSCK - we've gotta upgrade EVERYTHING"

I think it'd have to be a pretty big militia action.

This is so wrong and unconstitutional,

Yeah like that's stopped anyone before in the US

This is one of those moments where you should be thankful that the US is actually run by large corporations, and Silicon Valley's corporations are larger than the anti-piracy's. Campaign contributions make all the difference...

I'm Pro Gun, I've seen full well what happens when you try to build a society on "Peace Order and Good Government"
