SAN FRANCISCO, Feb. 11 ? Intel scientists say that they have made silicon chips that can switch light like electricity, blurring the line between computing and communications and presenting a vision of the digital future that will allow computers themselves to span cities or even the entire globe.

This is freaking sweet, although I forsee bad things

Skynet went online at 5:43pm on Februrary 11th, 2004

Wow! It is finally happening!  I invisioned the idea of using fibre for processor cores in 1999 when I was really bored, the basic thing that got me hyped about the idea was that you could assign light wavelengths to specific numbers.  This would result in a computer that would no longer rely on 0 and 1.  Base 10 computer anybody?  Just immagine what this will do for 3D rendering and floating point calculations! /me drools.....

Gah.  This technology will force me to expose myself to more "natural " light .  <_<

As for Skynet...
Skynet is for chumps.  I want neural implants already.  :P
