Title: Interesting tool for mappers.. (Quake3->Doom3 Conversion)
Post by: Tekhead on 2004-08-26, 10:01
http://www.quake.de/q3tod3/ (http://www.quake.de/q3tod3/)

I'd check it out... it seems to be a solid program. I think I'd like to see SpAwN's excellent version of q1dm6 being played out in Doom3 among other maps, wouldn't you guys?

All we'd need then is a Classic Quake mod for Doom3 and we'd be set!  :thumb:

Isn't that as illegal as my q1-q3 dm6 conversion?  :-)

Looks real solid tho, that tongue is not easy to convert unless is a real solid tool, unless it breaks the patch in many tiny little brushes like some q3bsp---> q3map converters? I'll probably check it out.

How is it illegal for somebody to convert his own map for use in another game?

It's not, providing that every single thing in the map is custom made. One single standard q3 texture or sound is all it takes to cross the line.

Well even then it's not illegal, provided you don't distribute it.  If you legally own both games you can pretty much do what you want so long as it remains on your computer and nobody else's.  It's no different from Mastaba's Q2 to Q3 map converter, which is for personal use only.

ah yes, I was assuming the legality was being discussed as if these maps were being included in a Classic Quake mod, like Tek suggested.

on the plus side it is nice to see that good maps dont have to fall into obscurity after games become less popular.
