There has been almost ZERO news about the bugpatch. Hell, there's been ZERO talk of Gen recently. When are you coming out with the bugpatch? Did you run into any unexpected problems, Ingame and IRL?

If the bug Patch is taking soo long, then maybe more of us should help out with it

I'm a dedicated slippy myself

so i don't mind working and coming up with settings for slippy themed maps  :D

as for V1.0 i have no doubt that once the bug patch is out it won't take long for the animations and extra bits that will make gen the best mod around

Well I'm one for blunt honesty, so here's a status report.

First, I've been busy doing other things which have taken up a good amount of my time.  Second, I've been slacking a bit and neither my heart nor mind have been up for working on the mod during this time as well.  Third, my normal crew of beta testers has been unavailable.  Many have been busy with school, or work, or both, or have system problems.  Others are just slacking off and not doing their job of testing.

So where are things now?  I have some last minute map rotation stuff to finish up on, final prep work for release, then it's done.  I won't go setting dates, but I'm hoping to have this whole thing wrapped up before Thanksgiving if all goes well and I get the time I need. :)

I barely have time to jump in and play a map when people are on the servers, let alone go hunting for bugs. O_o  But, as Pho said, there isn't much left to do for the bugfix release -- I'm really looking forward to that going public.

I'll definitely try to find more time to do the beta testing thing, though, especially after this thing gets out. Sorry about not being around much, Pho. <3

Shambler: I do Generation-versus-Generation TDM matches with two teams of bots all the time. Pretty cool to watch, although Slipgate always loses.

Lightning Hunter: I don't think it's fair to call gen a 'deceased' mod, or even 'unplayable' just because the weapon animations aren't in yet. If you won't play retail game beta's, I can understand that fully - beta testers are paid to get the bugs out, the players should get the full package they lay down hard cash for.
This is a free mod, one that will be under construction for some more time. We haven't abandoned it, and as for game-play, especially with the upcoming patch, we have a damned good game going as it is. Weapon animations are icing on the cake. The only thing that can kill this mod is disinterest and lack of enthusiasm from fans.

Besides, after .99f, which fixes any serious bugs left over from the .99e release, we're starting into the weapon animations.  Don't mistake a lull in public activity as a mod being "dead".

Not whining here, but we've all just had one hell of a busy fall.  It's not like we don't have lives outside this project or anything.  If there's a rich videogame philanthropist out there that wants to fund all of us while we work fulltime on Gen, then sure, we can get everything done as fast as a full-fledged game company can.  Until that happens we have to fit this into our spare time.  I'd say we're doing damned good for a project this big.  How many other largesse mods for Q3 have called it quits already?

why does the Doomer hold the pistol in his right hand? In the games (classic Dooms), he holds it in his left. Purist? Maybe.. but it's how I am. ;)

I modeled the hand right-handed and never bothered to switch it over to the left side.  Besides, Tabun's got a better hand model that's going to replace that one anyway, so everything will be prim and proper before the end. ;)

McDeth:  Ease down there fella.  I know you're being protective of the mod, but namecalling like that is against the forum rules.  Lightning Hunter just wants to see animations, like we all do.  There's nothing wrong with waiting for good things.  Just think how much it's going to blow his socks off the first time he sees Gen - complete with animated weapons.  Don't go chasing off someone who might just pimp the mod that much harder once that happens!

Bug Zone, Unreal Arena (I was looking forward to that one), MatrixQ3, Reborn, the list goes on.

The only other Q3 mods that I can think of that you could deem large would be Bid For Power, Gundam Universe, Urban Terror, and PAD Mod.
 
Bid for Power is finished, but its animations were done via the player model and it had several people in its staff.

Gundam Universe is still in developement yet, and it's been around for a long time.  After Gen, I am most looking forward to a release and final version of this mod.

Urban Terror is not a very big mod in the traditional sense, but it's been continuously refined over the years.  And eventually, it will be ported over to Enemy Territory.  (Has it been yet?  I'm not sure.)

And then there's PAD Mod, pure gold right alongside Generations Arena.  This is a mod that I have been looking forward to for quite some time, and it's been in development almost as long as Generations Arena has (possibly more?)

Semi-Rant (More of a statement of fan-dom than anything else.)

 The only difference between PAD Mod and Generations Arena is the amount of staff each team has.  Tabun and Phoenix have worked their ass/tail feathers off on the mod.  While a two man team gets you a really cohesive-feeling game, it also makes the deadline loom far into the future.  Of which, if it weren't for the website (and the webmonkey Con,) Warden providing the hosting and laying down the groundwork for the mod, the consideration for copyright (kudos to Leemon,), the beta test team and the weekly games, and the many mappers (Reboot, Angst, and many others,)  that have made some stellar maps, yeah Gen probably would have faded  off the radar.  I seriously question whether or not that would have stopped Phoenix and Tabun though.  They're machines with an undying passion for their work. ;)

Whether or not a modification/game is well known, sometimes, something comes along and just knocks everybody flat on their ass.  I think Generations will be the same way once everything is finished. :)  For right now though, I'll just keeping putting my bets on the WHS team and enjoy the unfinished ride because I've never fallen off or been disappointed yet.
