Title: Star Wars Episode III sucked.. (...complete and utter ass!)
Post by: McDeth on 2005-06-02, 10:05
It isn't even worth my time to expand upon my arguement. This movie just plain, sucked balls.

I liked it. Easily the best of the new trilogy, and nearly as good as some of the original.

Ok, so you have an opinion but are unwilling to expound upon it, which means you didn't like it but can't or won't offer any reasoning for your dislike.  This means nobody here can relate to your opinion, which makes it completely irrelevent.  On the bright side it does mean you're not posting any spoilers or sharing any in-depth plot details.

Oh, and I say the movie rocked, and I can give some reasons why it rocked, spoiler-tagged just to be safe:

"Wah wah wah, I'm not a Jedi Master, wah wah wah, I'm going to cry about it in front of Samuel L., wah wah wah, I'm supposed to be one of the most powerful Jedi/Sith in the Galaxy and I'm being a sporking emo kid."

Give me a break.

Let me ask you guys a question. If you were a Jedi and had the ability to sense other peoples' feelings/intentions, would that not  include the ablility to sense a conspiracy involving MILLIONS OF CLONED SOLDIERS?!

This movie was overflowing with utter bullshit. That's why I felt, during my first post this was not worth my time to expand upon. But since you forced my hand bird, I have no choice but to tell you why you are amiss.

And by the way, one can discover better transitions in my colon.

Update: Actually, check this out. I just stumbled upon it.

Wow, what a whine-fest of a page from someone who is just a hatemonger for a fictional movie series.  Now how pathetic is that?  Let's take a few points in turn.  First:  That link has some spoilers so anyone who hasn't seen the movie is now warned.

Quote
f you were a Jedi and had the ability to sense other peoples' feelings/intentions, would that not include the ablility to sense a conspiracy involving MILLIONS OF CLONED SOLDIERS?!
Let's see, one thing that struck me from Episode 1 is when Yoda, Anakin, and Obi-Wan are sitting next to Palpatine (not using spoiler tags because everyone knows he's the freaking Sith Lord anyway, courtesy of Episode VI) they did not sense that he was.  Reason?  As Yoda put it, "The Dark Side clouds everything".
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Regarding Anakin's conversion to the Dark Side, are you DENSE?  Is the page author denser?  Look at what he did in Episode 2, he was already tempted and started down the path.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I addressed that abomination of a page only because you seem to echo its sentiments.  Now let's get one thing straight - I'm no Star Wars fanatic.  mecha is the Star Wars nut.  To me it's just like every other movie series.  I will, however, apply my brain to something before dismissing it, and I'm willing to be forgiving when I watch a film as long as I am entertained by it.  I don't watch something like Star Wars and critique it like it's some kind of high art.  It's a freaking movie!  I also don't see how my viewpoint is amiss because, to me, there are logical reasons to explain everything you're attacking.  There are plenty of things in the movie that are worth criticizing, such as the awful droid chatter, but so far you haven't brought any up.  If anything you've picked some of the worst reasons to attack the film precisely because they're easily explained.

Star Wars nut?!?

I was until I saw what complete dorks tr00 Star Wars fans are. ;)

Maddox generally is right about most things... the things he's not right about are The Matrix and Star Wars. now I've seen all 3 prequels in the theater, and as much as the WTF?!? factor was up during 1and 2, I didn't have that with 3, and I was thoroughly entertained by 3 the entire time it was going on.

if you want a credible source (sorry brother Maddox) for Star Wars-dom, visit my LJ. I deal with whiny sporks like you towards the end of my last entry, McDeth. OMG LUCAS IS A SHITTY WRITER!!!11!!11 OMGZ11! LoLz

http://www.livejournal.com/users/mecha187/ (http://www.livejournal.com/users/mecha187/)

he has more money than you. he was an innovator. he can re-release his films as many times as he wants, and millions of people will still buy it.

why? cause Lucas is a bonafide marketing genius. now know your role and stfu.

I'm going to agree with Pho here for the most part.

(rampant spoiler tags, just in case)

Episode III was a vast improvement over I & II, however there were a few elements that forced it to remain inferior to the originals, IMO.  The droid chatter was indeed annoying...
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
... to ward off those who would say the same about R2D2's noises, I say this: R2 beeping is another matter entirely, he's simply communicating with C3PO, and the humans around him - who do not have the benefit of a more efficient means of communication.

I also found the

to be rather tacky, reminding me of something from a "B" sci-fi movie from the early 70's... but perhaps that's just a subjective issue.

The dialogue of Anakin and Padme (between each other, and with others) dramatically improved with Episode III, but there were still some parts that seem like they tried too hard to develop a sense of attachment with the viewer, or something of that sort... case in point:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
so cheesy I almost gagged in the theatre.  This bit of dialogue alone shaved about 1/2 point off my rating of the entire movie :P

Still, it stands head and shoulders above I & II.  I don't think I even saw Jar Jar, other than in the background of a scene or two, where I almost missed him entirely.  The depth and exposition provided by the scenes on

Wookie bowcasters are normal. I think Chewwie had one in the originals.

Title: Re: Star Wars Episode III sucked..
Post by: mecha on 2005-06-03, 04:34
the wookiee bowcaster is common. he uses it in ROTJ if I recall. so it's nothing new. if you played any of the Jedi Knight games, they were always in those too. consider it the SW shotgun, since it has a spread. hah

To be honest, I was disappointed in Episode 3.  I still view Episode 2 as the best of the series, but there were aspects about 3 that I enjoyed more than 2.  For instance, the dialogue exchanged between Palpatine and Anakin throughout the film was among some of the best dialogue in the entire series.  I wouldn't go so far as to say the downfall of Anakin was entirely believable, but I would say that it was very convincing.

Now for my criticisms...

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Now on to a minor gripe...

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

My gripe with the prequel trilogy as a whole and where I start to devolve into a tired rant...

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I am a bit biased when it comes to Star Wars, because I did not care for the original trilogy, but I still respect it for what it was.  The reason why I like Episode 2 so much is because it combined all the aspects of the series that I enjoyed, Jedi mythology, light-saber battles, and a great sense of character development.  There was a shit load of fan service as well, namely getting to see Yoda fight for the first time.

it fills the void that links the new trilogy to the original trilogy, which is nuff said

i hope that episodes 7 to 9 don't take another 30 years

as they have already been huge ass rumors on the geek pages

Gameskeeper, I liked that part as I stated earlier that Episode II was my favorite.

You made some good points Jones.  :)

Btw was it just me or did the actor who played as Dooku look like crap?  And by crap, I mean seriously ill or something  along those lines.

I can't remember where I saw it but didn't they use a stand in for Lee in the lightsaber battles and super-imposed his head to him. If so they did an exellent job cause you can't tell the differance.

Actually if I'm not mistaken it's mentioned on the special features for Attack of the Clones.

Hayden makes Anakin Skywalker seem like an extremely petty, pathetic man.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
It just goes to show what kind of man it takes to become as evil as Darth Vader, and just what it takes to drive him to that point.  I think the problem is people have had this misconception that somehow Darth Vader is "cool".  No, the costume and lightsabers and James Earl Jones voice are cool.  Evil isn't cool, it is pathetic and petty, so Lucas's portrayal of Anakin is actually "telling it like it is".  Look at truly evil people throughout history, and you'll find petty selfishness, pride and arrogance common to all of them.  I think a lot of people don't like seeing themselves in this either.  How many people are just as pathetic and petty and think they are not?  How many people do selfish things and knife each other in the back on a daily basis just to get one rung further up the ladder?  Ladder to where, exactly?  What happened to Anakin was tragic, but his choices through it were what turned him into Darth Vader.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
To Obi Wan he should have listened, as Yoda would say.

I think people worship villains far too much these days.  So far I haven't seen anyone applaud Obi Wan for doing everything he could to bring Anakin back and for genuinely giving a damn about someone who obviously didn't deserve it.  His story is every bit as tragic as Anakin's as he was his best friend and mentor, and had to watch someone he loved turn away in the worst possible manner
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
That's a horrible burden to bear, and frankly I'm glad it's all just fiction.

Phoenix: "I think people worship villains far too much these days."

I've always preferred the villain characters.. in my own little way. If you hate a villain character, then he is obviously doing his job well. After realizing that, I came to appreciate a job well done... unless it was a shoddy job to begin with.. then that's different.

No, it was a blatant jab at your comment about having more acting ability than someone who's making a lot of money at it.  That would be like me saying I'm a better programmer than Robert Duffy.  I'm not.  I just happen to run across all the bugs he doesn't get around to fixing because they interfere with what I'm trying to do at the time.  I was rather hoping you'd read between the lines instead of requiring me to explain the obvious yet again.  Though, with your odd sense of humor and completely dry tone it's often hard to tell when you're being silly or just being plain dense.

I loved it, but I admit im an obsessd fan and I love all the movies, books etc.

My only problem was a small continuity error.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

As for episdoes 7-9. Not happening. It has been know for years that Lucas has decided not to do them. He made that decison in the early nineties, hence Timothy Zahn's trilogy was published, but only after he made changes "requested" by Lucas. (Ie having the clone of Obi-Wan changed to Joruus Caboth) and the fact that every novel has to be a part of contenuity and that George Lucas even has in put in the novels. (ie changing the focus of the New Jedi Order from Anakin to Jacen Solo, so as to avoid confusion with Anakin SKywalker in the new trilogy)

So sith is the final movie but not the end of Lucas Films involvement. Lucas is now going to make two tv series. One is going to be exending the clone wars micros sereis to 30 minutes and being made in 3d (alas, Beast Wars Transformers). The second is going to be live action (like the Young Indian Jones Chronicles) and be set between Episodes 3 and 4 and focusing on minor characters. Also it won't be filmed until the first season's scripts are all produced (again like young indiana) and Lucas will produce (and possibly direct) two or three before handing over to someone he considers worthy of doing a good job.

(edit:  changed color tag to spoiler tag)

Yes, but the Organa family knew who the mother was, and it's a no-brainer that Obi Wan told Senator Organa who the father was for her protection, which would lend the possibility she could have been told at some point that she was at least adopted, and at most Anakin Skywalker's daughter.  We know she wasn't told because of how it played out in Episodes 4-6.

I'm not really a "true" fan of the Star Wars series, but I did see all the movies including ep.3 now for the 5th time XD lol 5th time some would ask? you MUST be a hard core fan. no im not, but its not often that a sci fi fiction can keep my interest like Star Wars can and after watching "behind the scenes" online movies and what not before i saw the movie, it really helped to deepen my reason for seeing it so many times. did you know all the places and scenes like the lava planet and the wookie planet were done with models? yeah! not much cgi work at all. and how they put so much effort into making Obi Wan Kenobi like the Obi Wan character in the originals. I mean they had the face done, posturing done, actions of Kenobi all down so well. I was impressed. I was also impressed with how they did the wookie attack by the shore and everything. it was just all WELL done.

My only drawbacks for the movie was mainly one thing.........giving Anakin a BETTER reason to join the dark side, but after reading Pho's reply as to why he turned over so easily......."he was already tainted down that road in ep.2..." that made a whole lot more sense. cuz i fi saw someon shooting electricity from their hands........i think id' give a second thought to joining the dark side. @_@. there were some other very small insignificant things during some battle sequences that kind of dug at me but other than that I thougth it was a fabulous movie and ep. 1 and 2 PALE in comparison to ep. 3
