Title: Domestic "Security"
Post by: Phoenix on 2008-12-01, 17:59
The Pentagon is planning on deploying 20,000 soldiers domestically by 2011 as part of a disaster response program.  You can read the articles here:

More specifics can be found here on the initial training of the troops:

To me this runs afoul of Posse Comitatus (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Posse_Comitatus_Act) and this is especially disturbing to note:

Quote
They may be called upon to help with civil unrest and crowd control
Does this not put American soldiers in a position to fire upon American civilians?  What kind of "civil unrest" are they worried about, and is this not just a few steps away from martial law?  Those of you who live in the United States and read this board, I implore you to take note of this and contact your senators and representatives if you find this to be a disturbing trend.  You also have a new president on the way in.  If he's as great as everyone seems to think then perhaps you might consider putting him to work on this as well.

Disturbing, yes.

It's a shame that "the country of freedom" is fading into a sort of doppleg?nger of its former self.

I don't know why but I suddenly remembered the "Follow Freeman" chapter on HL2. Or playing as a insurgent in Insurgency.

But thats just me overreacting, right?
