The full release of winamp 5 is OUT!

I suggest everyone grab it.

http://www.winamp.com

I've been using winamp 2.78 since...well since it came out more or less. I've never seen the need to upgrade my winamp. And when the horrible disaster that winamp 3 was appeared, I just pointed and laughed. Sure, it had its good points...but it had lots of bad ones too. It was unstable, used up gobs of resources, and other things.

Enter winamp 5. Taking the good of winamp2 with the good of winamp 3, it's been causing a stir for several months as it went through its various beta stages. I'd considered upgrading a time or two, but I figgured not for a beta release candidate. Now that the full version's out, I grabbed it, and it rocks.

For those of you wondering where winamp 4 went...there is no 4. Winamp 2 + 3 = 5. Slipgate - Wink

Quoted from the site:

Whats new for Winamp?
 ?  Snazzy new look!
 ?  Groovy new features!
 ?  Most things actually work!

/me looks at the 'most things actually work' line puzzled

is it so standard nowadays that most Things DON'T actually work, that they felt they had to advertise that?? And doesnt that also imply, that a few things still dont work??

Yup, that's the one.
Best media player out there.  Why?  Cause the winamp interface sucks.  Winamp still can't record from a disk.  WMP does everything and as long as you don't allow it access to the net, it won't sell anything.
Hell, MS already owns everything on my HDD just cause I updated, why buck the system?

I don't call 96bps recording.  I call 320 bps MP3s recording. Lossless works too, but it kinda eats up file space, you know?  IF WinAmp could do that, I would take a look.
I don't care a hoot about a skin.  If you say WinAmp can rip CDs and I couldn't figure it out by looking for a Record button, there's something seriously wrong with the app.
Just because the interface requires esoteric knowledge to reap the bennefit of all it's features doesn't make it good, it makes it crap.
I don't want to study a manual to figure out how to do all the crap I want to do - I use windows.  I want a GUI that an infant could use.

It freakin' changes my system's volume control settings! Every time I fire it up, it turns my wave volume to the max! Winamp 3 never did this... Neither did 2.
