I was thinking it would be cool to have a single player for Gen. Not an actual set of missions, just a bot ladder like vQ3. You could set it up so you go across different areas fighting the natives (ie fight Doom, Phobos and Crash on mars maps, or go to earth and fight sarge) or you could do other stuff like class vs class TDM or CTF bot matches or something. I don't think it's a high priority addition, but it would give Generations players something to do when there's no one on the servers or their ISP goes down. I don't think it would be too much work, and with a little thought put into it it could be fun.

It's definitely something I've wanted in the mod since the beginning, and I'm pretty sure we'll have the ladders back at some point.  I'd like to have a Q3 ladder (play all the normal Q3 SP but with Gen weapons and bots) and a Generations ladder (Generations maps).  Our current UI system doesn't allow for Single Player at the moment, but we plan to reintroduce it down the line.

Cool, sounds like fun. Of course you can always add bots into your own server but it's not the same, plus it's inconvenient.  Thumbs up!

Yes, Q3's Tier system is pretty nifty for a quick game, plus it'd be easy to get bots playing maps they belong in. :]

maybe a completely new tier with the classes on there own turf , doom guys on vesperas , stroggers on the edge , and so on .

I've never really been one for bots, but this idea doesn't sound half bad!

it'll work, provided we've got enough themed maps in Gen Slipgate - Smile
(is anyone working on Earth or Arena maps?)

Heh... I think I suggested this q3 tier style single player thing eons ago.

Anyway... I was just playing on q1dm4v2, yea.. my own map.. sue me, with only slipgate enabled, and I think I'm out of practice or something... Wrack was just wiping the floor with me. Well, not really THAT bad... but he did win. I haven't lost to bots since I first played q3 years ago. :/

Pathetic...

The relevance of this post? Well, Saturday isn't a good day for me... so I just botmatch to get my fill of Gen. So I'm all for it. Slipgate - Smile

Single player bot matches would be cool.I haven't been able to play all week due to work.That bums me out.Bots aren't as fun to play as people but atleast I'll still get to play.It'll be easier than adding bots.

For now you can always set up a rotation using the current mappacks and have bots automatically load at random like this:

/bot_minplayers [number]
/exec mappack3.cfg (or any other mappack number for that matter)

Where [number] is how many players you want total in the game.  Remember to include yourself in this number.  Bots will spawn in a few seconds apart once play begins.

If you find yourself needing tougher practice, try the CPMA mod. It's bots go all the way up to skill level 100, and teach you to deal with more player-common evasions like strafe jumping and bunny hoping. It also helps you learn how to hit people directly with rockets, instead of just knicking them eith splash damage. I know it helped me.
