Hello-

I'm new here, found my way here from Shacknews.  And well I'm an experienced map maker, but l havent been doing any mapping for a while due to the lack of time.  Anyway after downloading and checking out Generations.  I would love to port one of my Quake 2 maps for Generations.

I was thinking of doing either:
Nexus2 - Rusted: http://planetquake.com/shadowdane/maps/nexus2.htm
or
Deep Freeze: http://planetquake.com/shadowdane/maps/deepfrz.htm

Or hell both if I have the time, but I kinda doubt it.
So wanted to get everyone's opinion on which they would like to see?  Or would you rather see one of my other maps ported?

As soon as I get past the half-hour wait, I'll scope 'em out.

A ported, revamped version of Deep Freeze would probably be best, however none of them were exceptionally outstanding in my opinion. Very closed, linear corridor-style constructs typically do not allow for much manuverability, which brings down the potential tactical gameplay value of Nexus2, as well as sections of Deep Freeze. Another thing: Those maps are really dark!! A few dim lights to put a good mood on is allright, but I had to use the blaster to find my way around large sections in both of those featured maps. If you do port them, please raise the minimal level of the ambient lighting.

That's all I can say for the moment.

yeah when I loaded up Deep Freeze, I noticed how damn dark that is.  I must of had some custom settings in my config or something back when I was making it.

In terms of the map, yes it will be brighter..  and I plan to only use the map as a base design I want to open it up a little bit.  That was the one thing about the map I never really liked.

If youre up to port one of your maps to generations i suggest you to add a bit more details to it, since we are not living in the q2 ages anymore Slipgate - Smile if you still have your .map files this should be no problem. tho i think you have to convert them to "q3" .map format but im not sure..

yep still have the .map files, actually the map files from Quake2 load right up into GTKRadiant.  Granted all the textures are missing, among some weird entities that don't exist it works.

In terms of the level, I'm stripping it down to just the bare bones layout and rebuilding it to better suit Q3.  It should look quite good once its done.  I'll post some screenshots once I get something to show.

Well thought I would post a pic here...   Been working on the conversion for a bit now, and have my first pic to show for it.  Still needs work, but its coming along pretty nicely.

Yah.. finally got this Quake 3 map pretty much completed.  I thought I would just post this in the original thread.  But the level does need some playtesting.   The level layout, geometry & lighting is done unless you guys find any visual problems, bugs or anything else weird. The bots don't play it that well though, and I'm still going to work on improving them a little bit. They get stuck or confused in a few places, so hopefully I can fix that for the final release.

This level also features music by 'Indy' of www.indysound.net -- he was awesome enough to make a custom track for me for this level!!!

So here is a few pics:

Level Download (includes music):

Very nice. I really liked the path to the Quad Damage. And the alarm sound. I know that next time l hear it, i now that i'll get gibbed Slipgate - Roll Eyes . Really liked the colours that you have chosen for this level. They really combine with the textures. BTW the bots don't get that confused, but they should be improved but since you have noticed it, no point arguing about it. Besides that, no more improvement needed. Good job.

I really couldn't find any errors visually on the map.  The only things that stuck out to me was grenades can get trapped really easy in all the side pockets on the level.  A little projectile clipping might help that.  The other thing that got my attention is the megahealth is pretty easy to reach by jumping across to the ledge from the upper platform, so not everyone is going to take the tunnel.  The security monitor is a nice touch, and though it could lead to a little camping the guy with the armor stands a chance with the lightning gun since he can absorb a hit from the rail and keep fighting.  The lighting looks great, and the detail is superb.  19 megs is a bit hefty for a map download, but it looks fantastic.

It's a very cool map. since your not going to do anymore q3 maps (which is a shame) how about converting you q2 and q3 maps to UT2004  Slipgate - Laugh

Since im on a modem i really don't want to download 19mb for just a map..but judging by the screenshots the map looks very good! only thing i whould complain about is the repetive brick texture. but somehow it has it charms Slipgate - Smile great work!
