But does it sound good?

Scariness is more about audio than visuals, at least to me.

I may be startled by things jumping out of the walls, but hearing them skuttling around just out of sight is frightening.

The last game to truely scare the shit out of me was System Shock 2. Half of System Shock 2's atmosphere is auditory. At least. The rest is a combo of level design, the little clues left behind by the crew, and the sense that something is waiting for you.

I really hope Doom3 lives up to the hype, but visuals only go so far without the sound to back them up.

Well, since Doom3.com went live, you can hear a clip from the game's title song. =P

If I'm not mistaken, Nine Inch Nails' ex-keyboardist did the music.

id should market Doom 3 as a Christian game. I mean, correct me if I'm wrong, Phoenix, but how much more righteous can you get than to FIGHT THE FORCES OF SATAN?

You could even change a couple things to suit the bible belt. Make the fists a handheld cross, the BFG could be the Holy Grail, and instead of burning up, fallen creatures could drop to their knees and ascend to Heaven!

Sure, the modding community could produce something like that. Doom 3: Christian edition. Slipgate - Tongue

I read a preview of doom 3 and the previewer said that the sound was awesome! maybe he was exaggerating but he did say he nearly dropped the joypad (x-box version i guess)

I totally agree.
The sound in undying scared me shitless.

I had to turn the effects off in that game.

if only it had had a supernailgun, or twin gatts I could have finished it!

The sound in any good game is 50% the effect.

Man, that is soooo off-topic.  :p
But then again, I've always felt the same way - how could any religious person say it teaches us evil?

Exactly my point.  I said this when the ORIGINAL Doom was being bashed for being "Satanic".  So... running around with a shotgun blowing angels away would be considered Godly under that logic?  Slipgate - WTF

I would say Doom, Quake, Doom 3... anything that pits you against the forces of evil is teaching the RIGHT message:  Show them no quarter, take the fight to THEM, and give Satan a bitch-slap upside the face as often as possible.

I'm going to make a post in R&R about this, since it's got me in a mood to rant.
