Probably:

Quote
Todd Hollenshead, id's chief executive, said Doom 3 will require:
? A 1.5-gigahertz Intel Pentium 4 chip or AMD Athlon 1500
? 384 megabytes of memory
? Two gigabytes of hard drive space
? An nVidia GeForce 3 graphics card or better; or an ATI Radeon 8500 or better

dont wurry guys , I played quake 3 rtcw and sof2 on a pentium 200mhz
and I got a good average framerate  of 2 to 17 FPS ( not that when there where a couple of explosions I would start leaning very hard to the 2 FPS.

And that's a good average framerate? I'm having some problems with my pc right now and my average framerate with all of those games is 40,50 fps! I play Halo and CoD with that framerate and it's bad.

Yeah I have a frickin 800MHz Duron, but I have 512MB RAM and a GeForce2 Ti so it runs decent... but still I am not gonna be able to run Doom3 worth a shit.  I guess its finally time to upgrade.

If any of you havn't gotten the new PC Gamer yet I suggest you grab a copy there is a great reveiw in there for Doom3 and a section where they go through system requirements in detail.

Get rid of the Graphic card and the processor. Buy a 3Ghz or a 2.8Ghz processor. And a GeForce FX 5700 or a ATI Radeon 9600XT. Of course that this is my opinion.

I am 100 MHz short and one generation of graphic cards behind.  I'm sure I still will be able to get DOOM 3 to run, but I wonder what I will have to sacrifice to get it to.  Hopefully a demo will be forthcoming before the game is released :p

I hope so. That way we can take a first look before buying it.

A demo is forthcoming, but no release date yet.  I'm going to wait for that to see if I can run it worth a damn.  The Alpha didn't give me much hope, but then again that WAS an Alpha.

It's a good suggestion. BUT maybye we should wait for the 64bit windows so that 64bit processors technology evolve.

I just thought I'd pass along some news I found out about at Slashdot.  id released their benchmark information to Hard OCP, and they have an article up about it now.  http://www2.hardocp.com/article.html?art=NjQy  It pretty much confirms that if you meet the minimum system requirements, you'll have an enjoyable gaming experience.  It doesn't mention anything about older cards though.   Slipgate - Sad

I'm running:

AMD Athlon XP 1800+, system bus OC'd to 139 Mhz (Damn you, locked CPU!!)
512 megs PC2100 RAM
Chaintech GeForce TI4600 with 128 megs RAM

I think I'm adequate to run Doom 3.  My dream system:

AMD Athlon 64 FX-53, 1MB L2 Cache, 2.4 GHz CPU
Asus motherboard capable of supporting at least two PCI Express slots
2 GB CORSAIR XMS DDR PC-3200 (has the LED's on it)
2X nVIDIA GeForce 6800 Ultra PCE in SLI

Of course, that's ridiculously expensive and something I'm not ever going to have, but I'd love to play Doom 3 on it.  As an update, [H]ardOCP has posted a nice collaborative review with Id Software.  If you want to see which card is king in regards to Doom 3, and how your system will stack up, here's the place to look:

http://www2.hardocp.com/article.html?art=NjQy

Enjoy!

Looks great on paper, and I'm sure it's wicked sick for industrial use, but CAN IT RUN DOOM 3?  If it's incompatible that would be an awful waste of currency.

I think so. Your computer looks good to play DooM3. If you want to make an update, Buy a new CPU.

BTW the answer to the topic question: badly...
