had the same hunk_alloc problem reported elsewhere - after i fixed that one got as far as 'awaiting snapshot' and then crashed out to windows - occasionally with a pointer error reported - 'trying to access 0x00000000' Slipgate - Sad any ideas?

hunk_megs set to 128, 512 in the machine.

had a blue screen this morning caused by my graphics driver - upgraded recently to allow me to play painkiller - don't know if that could be related ...

dell inspiron 8200, 2GHz Pentium 4 - M, 512Mb RAM, ATI Radeon 9000 graphics card w 64Mb RAM, Windows XP Pro ...

... and it seems it just doesn't like to run on high quality graphics settings - dropped it to 'normal' and the game boots up fine - guess it's an ati driver problem - sorry to waste your time but was really keen to try the mod - odd thing is that i can run it with everything turned on in standard quake3 at 1600x1200, no problem at all!

Not a waste of time at all.

Note that Gen has much higher system requirements, in terms of memory and texture memory, than standard quake3.

I use "r_roundimagesdown" to reduce memory load and i play at max details, res 1024
at my Celeron 1.3  256 Ram  GF4mx

I had the same high textures type problem with my ATI 9800 pro, amd2700+, 512 meg ram. also sorted by dropping a notch.

It could be an ati prob as 99e runs really well on my p3 800 mgz, with a voodoo 5500.

I wrote up some graphics tweaks in the FAQ section of the manual.  You might find some useful tips there.  Also, under Gen's graphics settings be sure to set "Compressed Textures" to "Yes".  This will help with the "awaiting snapshot" behavior and generally speed up gameplay.  That might be all you need to do.

thanks for all the help guys - changed a few settings in q3config and can now run it on high quality again at 1600x1200 - framerate occasionally drops to around 60 or so but as i'm only playing against bots at the moment who cares Slipgate - Smile

btw, haven't played all the maps yet but ... are there any wolfenstein themed ones in there?

Well, not Wolfenstein 3D-themed, but there are a few more "modern" maps floating around.  Some examples are:

pjw3dm6_gen - Guns (has a nice
wvwq3dm7 - Decidia (note:  Framerate killer at those settings!)
genstart2 - Eternal Arenas (Mix of all Generations, has a Wolf-ish cellar area)
ikzdm1 - The Doom that Came to Dunwich (Old Boston with a meteor impact)

Hopefully we'll have more Earth-ish and Wolf-ish maps down the road!

heh - just some maps with imitations of the old wolf3d textures would be fine - nostalgia's an easy beast to satisfy Slipgate - Smile
