You missed a couple, like Vesperas

They were removed for either sucking, looking horrible, having bad gameply, or a combination.

I always sat out Plutonians when it came up, but I liked Q1E1M2 - shame it looks a bit crap.

But hey, Dead Souls ROCKS and I'm well chuffed that one of my suggestions made it in there (Trial By Error)! Thumbs up!

I can still play the old maps offline anyway. Slipgate - Smile

House of Chthon was the campiest map ever.

The only way to play it was to camp, because there was absolutely ZERO incentive to move around. You either sat on top of the RL/GL platform and spammed, or sniped from the rail platform. To go anywhere else was to die.

Removed entirely.

Vesperas was an extremely bad map. It was ugly, the ammo counts obscene, the flow non-existant, and the only class that could do well was Doom.

I liked the map myself, but the map wasn't very pretty.  Hopefully someone can whip up a decent remake of it that looks more Doom-ish.

Vesperas was an eyesore that I would be content if I never saw it again.

...at least the version we had. Perhaps a remix might be nice with optimal weapon placement and some interesting flow additions =]

House of C'thon and Entryway were two of my favorite maps...   Slipgate - Sad
I like my DM maps small and with a high fragrate.

Each to their own.

All I know is that:


  • HoCthon was, like stated earlier in this thread, just a box with a few campspots. There was no real flow, and the spawnpoints were utter bullshit. Lopsided play is all that I've encountered on that map.
  • F.Plutionians was just as unbalanced, if you ask me. It used a similar trick to dm17, with the rail, but it doesn't really work that well. It has a horrible sniper/campspot on top, and the placing of the 100h is pretty lame. Other than that, you have to be a real sucker for jumppads to enjoy it :] - I must say though, I'm biased when it comes to 'open space maps'. I like games that involve tactics, not just prize shooting :]
  • Entryway was just .. well.. not nostalgia-powered enough. All we need is a GOOD map01 remake/remix, not one that goes overboard on extra rooms and odd structures (quad area) or teleporters.
  • Decidia plays like shit here, but it isn't ugly. Far from it in fact. I'd even go so far as to say that it looks both pretty and refreshing ;]
  • I still don't really agree with everyone saying Vesperas was all that ugly. It's not as elaborate and details as some of our other maps, and the brushwork could indeed use some touching up, but I don't think it's ugly. It just plays like shit - see ammo overdose, and placement of powerups.
  • Damn it's early.

I agree with the Ho chiton stuff, but I still like to play it.

mind, I still play the fragtown maps when I can

Vesperas is a Doom map. Doom maps WEREN'T elaborate but they were still good. Vesperas wasn't, although it was there that I scored my longest-ranged Doom rocket frag ever. Big Gun

This Damn Castle rocked. OK, so it didn't have the nail shooters, but it was pretty damn accurate imo.

Plutonians was more like Q3DM17 on mogadon.

Cthon was good for small games, but there were few of those, granted.

Pro-Q1DM6 was just too damn big ...

Entryway ruled! The only issue I had with it was the spawn right beside the BFG.

Claustro was great too. It didn't look much and the bots were garbage, but everything was there and it was great with humans imo.

Tokay's Towers? OK, I never liked the original much anyway.

Nexus was good, although the weapons were stacked a bit much to one side of the map.

I will not argue with the others about the old maps, but the two new mappacks rule!!!! specially ctf!!!! and for the ffa mappack, its  awesomely cool!!!! of course, you can never be completely save from some crappy maps, but, there ya go!!!! most of the maps are cool, and the mappack has many really cool to awesome maps, and most of em are not dat big in size!!!! i definelly like to see added some of the burial-grounds kinda maps, dat are generally big in size but really cool!!! like lastarena.pk3.... otherwise keep em comin' ; and definelly, will like to see more Doom maps dat look really close to the original and with textures dat make sense to the architecture, maybe featurin' some textures by Tab, i dunno(by the way, nice site ya have Tab!).

bah , those maps you removed are those that I miss the most Slipgate - Sad

I loed entryway ,vesperas and tokays towers

specially vesperas , vesperas was da bomb for me . play that map on a server and i would join in any time .

even when I want to take a brake and vesperas comes on , I stay for that map .

with other words , there are wurser maps like wizards mansion and that map with the exploding barrels , they both suck .





btw , removing vesperas hasnt anything to do with pho owning ya on there is it ?

No GK. That had nothing to do with it. Vesperas was removed for being ugly and having horrible gameplay.

The others were removed for the same, or similar, reasons. No use arguing it.
