WASHINGTON - A 70-million-year-old Tyrannosaurus rex fossil dug out of a hunk of sandstone has yielded soft tissue, including blood vessels and perhaps even whole cells, U.S. researchers reported on Thursday.

Paleontologists forced to break the creature's massive thighbone to get it on a helicopter found not a solid piece of fossilized bone, but instead something looking a bit less like a rock...

You may now insert your random, "Nature finds a way," jokes. Seriously, this is very cool. I love the idea of paleontologists around the world cracking open their collections to see if they can get some meaty center.

Fossilized T-Rex:  Canned meat!  Open 'er up and see if it's still fresh.
Cloned mutant T-Rex:  This kind of canned meat tends to open YOU up instead!

I think, should they find actualy DNA, that any attempt to clone a dinosaur would be a serious mistake.  I don't just mean a "Jurassic Park" scenario here, either.  I only mention this because you know people will try it, or at least put forward the idea.

SWEET ! I'd be more interested to see what it all looks like under a microscope to see the similarities between then and now. They could compare cell structures, etc. to different species of today. Depending on how well preserved it is, I would also tend to think that perhaps it could also give clues as to how the dinosaurs really died off.

Well, just a thought. I spose it could possibly rule out a thing or 2 as opposed to nailing it on the head as well. Reaching out in left field, but they could still be in the ball park. *snickers* =P
