...

no really. he's ugly.
... independently of the skin here discussed, i have to said the things about the model are true. In vanilla Q3 i use Ranger model with blue skin. I'd happily use the Grunt model if it were anything remotely like the Q2 version...

All Q3 models are rather ugly, actually. They all have horrible deformations in both their animations and skins, not to mention stretching during animation. Ofcourse, with < 1000 polies it's hard to make something look good, but that's no excuse for sloppy unwraps..

... i'm sure that's what Q3A PR department had it to be, but for all purpose and intent, in Quake 2 you play a nameless (faceless?) caracter that is similar to the Grunt model in Q3 (or its counterpart...) so... no...

Opening quake 2 cinematic:

"We have made contact with extraterrestrials, we are contacting them now."
"One of the UAC space stations has been destroyed!"
"The extraterrestirals are coming in BILLIONS!"
"The city of Tokyo has been decimated"
"No survivors in Europe!"
"With earth speed, These brave soldiers will assault the home planet of the Stroggs. We, and the rest of humanity, wish these soldiers luck, and god-spee-CRASH"

"blah blah blah"
"Bitterman you are in the green ready for launch."
"S**T! Command, i got a problem. some cowboy clipped me on the way in.

Bitterman is also the name drawn at that chrash landed pod, you "landed" at cinematic.

Names are diferent at exp packs.

Yes, the character named Bitterman was the Q2 space marine you play in the game, however I would like to point this out:

1)  The Quake 3 Arena Bitterman player model has absolutely no physical resemblence to anyone or anything in Quake 2.
2)  The only default player models included with Quake 2 are "male" and "female", with the "grunt" skin being the default skin for the "male" model.
3)  All the dead and insane Q2 space marines physically look similar to the Q3 Grunt model since they all use the "male" model.

I hope that clears up any confusion.
