I don't use a background myself (mostly because it means simply wasting 5+ Mb on something I hardly if ever get to see), but here's where one could find some nice works:

Mine's just the hexagonal Doom floor tiles.  Grey, neutral, un-annoying, and good contrast for my icons.  I've been using this same wallpaper since computers could use wallpaper.

Mine desktop image is of Genesic GaoGaiGar, from the anime series Yuusha-Oh GaoGaiGar FINAL preparing to use his Genesic Hell And Heaven attack. It's kinda nifty. And very green.
