Even though it'd be cool to have a pet raccoon, I think it's a mistake when people try to take them in. In highschool, we had a neighbor who fed a raccoon out of her back porch. She passed away while I was in college, and the raccoon went looking for food in my mom's garage, assaulting our cat to near death in the process. After multiple attempts to shoo it away didn't work, she asked the AC repairman to shoot it. Sad story.
