Has anyone heard how Doom 3 is going to be shipped?  Multiple CDs, DVDs?  Is there a special edition out there? I've seen the preorders  that get you the little figure, but that's about it.  Surely id won't skip out on the metal case, will they?  I heart metal cases... Slipgate - Roll Eyes

I'd assume your standard multi-CD collection.

I've heard rumors of a Special Edition, but what it contains, no one knows.

And a DVD version is just a rumor too

Someone with an advance copy was kind enough to post a picture of the media, so here you go.

thats not even half of them! well make this simple and round out the diskettes to 2 mb, EVEN at 2mb per disk, to equal ONE cd thats THREE HUNDRED diskettes, randomly, ill say doom3 will be on say, three cds, that would be over 900 diskettes... imagine feeding THAT to your computer for 4-5 hours straight!

I believe those are supposed to be zip disks in the picture and not floppy disks.  Still humorous none-the-less  Slipgate - Laugh

Doom3.com also opened recently, if you havn't checked.

Theres a 22 second mp3 of Doom3's theme on there.

I believe its near Sonic Mayhem's "Quad Machine" level of goodness.

No, those are definitely 3.5" DSHD floppies.  I've seen enough of them to recognize them from the plate design as well as the holes near the top.  Also you might note that three of the four stacks are identical and the partial stack is just the top half of the other three stacks cropped and lowered.

Hehe.  Yep, you're indeed right.  I didn't catch the hole before and the rounded corner and the thickness of the floppy was throwing me off.  :p

What would be interesting is if id Software took a shareware approach again with the demo for Doom 3.  Although, such an approach would be impractical if Doom 3 were close to the size of UT2003 or UT2004.   Slipgate - Laugh

You'd think that companies would be eager to release DVD versions of their games...  CDs don't cost much, but you can still reduce the cost of the game by 75% (assuming 4 CDs).  (OK - I'm pulling that figure out of my pants as I don't know the cost of manufacturing a CD VS a DVD, but I assume it's similar - certainly a savings.)

Good LORD that's a lotta diskets! The game woul;d probably comes shrink wrapped with 3 boxes. One for every 300 disketes, assumeing that many can fit in one box PLUS the manual, unless that's packaged on the outside of the boxes in the shrink wrap. Slipgate - Tongue.
