Hmm, I'm not gonna list what's in my comps - Hell, I hardly know that myself, keep forgetting the old stuff 'n such :]

But here's a shot if you wanna see my 'setup'.

Edit: what hath changeth since then:
- The case in the back is replaced by a new rig, in a nice mac-style black box
- I have a mx500 on an icemat on that comp now
- There's more of a mess on the desks (including many design docs of both gen and sites I'm working on)

Yup, audio goes through stereo (I specifically bought my stereo for that purpose, so it has plenty of audio-in connections). At the moment, my left hand system comes in on AUX, while my right hand sys. is on VCR. Just a matter of popping the cables in, really.

Main Comp:

AMD Athlon XP 1700+ CPU
512MB RAM
1x Fujitsu 40GB HDD & 1x Maxtor 40GB HDD
DVD Drive
Memorex MAXX CD-RW drive 40x speed
VIA AC'97 sound card
nVIDIA GeForce2
17" Hansol CRT monitor
The demon-spawn that is WinXP Home

Old Comp:

AMD 800Mhz CPU
128MB RAM
1x CD-RW 24x speed
1x Fujitsu 40GB HDD
MS Wavetable integrated (yeuch!) sound card
S3 ProSavage integrated (double-yeuch!!) graphics card
Tiny 15" CRT monitor
WinME

Both run Q3A and Gen fine. My main one can even run Tenebrae (sort of - turn the resolution down and plug it into the TV- hey presto - looks great AND runs fast-ish). The crap thing is that I keep getting that damn "server uses protocol 47" or whatever error when I try to use both systems in a LAN game together. D'oh!

Audio goes through Sony MD mini hifi system 400watts RMS total output - great for drowning out that damn hum ...

That is a fantastic idea. It never occered to me to try that with the sound. My new monitor has dual imputs so I might get a stereo and rig the sound up as you have, and do the same with the monitor.

But then, maybe I could put the sound thou one of the PA's I use for the band....  8 imputs and 2k watts. a rocket would then sound like a rocket! (only joking about that)

I have found a pic of my rigs, and I've put a pic of me at the bottom! I once made a kind of Zues bot with my face on it, to help my little son but can't find it now.

I see I clearly fail to outdo any of you in mere system specs. But I have a joker up my sleeve. Remember that shot of my room I posted earlier on? (Well, you had, if you'd only clicked it)
Wondered why there were 3 monitors, but only 1 case? Well, it wasn't because the other one was somewhere hidden under the desk or anything.

It's actually outside of the room. See for yourself here:

underneath the desk.. where'd it go?
(and in case you were wondering: yes, yes that hole was specificly drilled in the wall for this purpose)

Oh my! It's right here!
(note the arbitrary rolling stones vinyl, and obligatory dutch 'DO NOT turn this off!' sign)

And that's not all. Usually (when I'm not being a lame-ass and/or working on the rig) It's encased in part of one of my old desks. I've padded that with insulation, to make it even less noisy:

As you can see, it's dusty, but it's almost hard to believe I run anything when the machine is in there
(so yes, the printer fits a lot nicer on top of that. Also, the rig next to it is another corpse of one of my old digital companions)

So there we have it. It may not be fast, and overclocking it is simply impossible when it's running hot in the insulated cupboard, but it sure as hell is quiet in my room when I close that door, and I can relax with my scotch and music without having that 'on the airplane' feel caused by the average computer.
Ah. How sweet the little things can make one's life.
