I fear my ti4200 will hold me back.  Gonna wait on the demo here.

Edited again cause it looks like Phoenix beat me to the link long ago.

I exspect I will be able to run D3 but am going to wait for the demo. If its too scary I don't need the stress at the moment.

This says windows XP!

does this mean I need to go to XP? I will not.

look here....

I'm going to stick with halflife2.

C'mon how many people uses Windoews 2000? And why doesn't it run on NT? XP is only an improvement of Windows NT.

Windows 2000 is also an improvement on NT.  XP is just 2000 with more out-of-the-box annoyances.  As for who uses Windows 2000... *I* use Windows 2000!  I used to use 98 until just last year.  I don't know about everyone else, but I despise having to change OS's every two FREAKING YEARS just because Microsoft thinks people need to pay them more money!!!

But it will run Doom 3, and that's what matters.

Oh are we posting specs here? I think I'm all right for Doom 3.

Barton 2500+ running with a 200 Mhz FSB (At 3200+ speed)
1 gig of PC2700, running in that dual channel thing
Radeon 9800xt

The initial plan is to do 1024*768 at High Quality, and if it's running at a high enough fps, I might bump it to 1280, but who knows.

Also, I use Windows 2000, too.

I have never used 2000, but might if you tell me it works with games ok. as I know nothing about it really. (I used M.E. on 3 comps, and norton ghost, so I've ever really considered changing when things go wrong, just ghosted back.)

It works fine for most games.  Some older games like Blood, Descent don't, but there are worka rounds that let you.  You can usually tell if you will have problems or not by seeing if the game requires DOS, which the NT kernel does not have.  DOS Doom doesn't work, but Doom for Win 95 (and all the ports you will be running anyway) do.  DOS Quake does not, but patch it and it will.
And hey, if you have a huge HDD anyway,  make it a dual boot system. Slipgate - Wink

Still using 2k here too. I even made a test-system, to see if upgrading to XP was worth the hassle. It wasn't. I'm not switching just for more dual-monitor options and Teletubbie colors. Games work better on 2k, if you don't know how to fix mouse accel, too.

I don't think games work better on 2K or XP - I've had the same performance.  That said, I don't think there is a reason to upgrade to XP if you like 2K.  However, there is a huge reason to upgrade to 2K if you're still using 98 or especially ME.
Does anyone remember Bob? :p

DOS may be "dead", but DOS games are not.

DOS IS NOT DEAD!! I still have my shitty ME comp which I use to play Wolf, DN3D and various other games that XP hasn't a snowball's chance in Hell of running.

Q2 anyone ...?

Tab: I got shot of my Teletubby XP colours a LOOOONNNGGG time ago! I advise my fellow XP mugs to do the same!

Aye, I shot it too, on that test setup. But I don't see the bonus value of it :]
Actually, running a Mac style has some benefits, though ;]
